It will at least tell you if your truck was affected by the recall, but I'm not sure if it will have record of it being completed or not. Will be interesting to see.

When you take a vehicle into a service department for any kind of work it will notify them if there are pending recalls, but if he didn't have your VIN at all there's no way he could have known.

Just checked my vin for my '02 Sport on that site and they only recall that popped was for the LBJ recall that was INCOMPLETE. Sounds like I'll be taking it in for free LBJ and alignment.

I checked my brothers vin for his '01 Sport and nothing came up for recalls.

I was about to replace my LBJ just to be safe (just bought the truck 6 months ago).

I'm not sure how up to date they keep their records, but hopefully you don't get to the dealership and find out they've already been done. That would be a nice score!

Thanks to this forum - I Just had this recall done on my 2002 with 240K miles on it. I have no idea when or if the previous owner had them replaced - ever. So i figured i would check on it since i had read multiple threads here about the recall & LBJ failures.

I just called my local dealer, gave my vin #, told them about the recall, they confirmed there was no expiration on the recall, made sure the service hadnt been completed previously, and then they ordered the parts for me.

I dropped mine off the night before and it was done earlier in the morning. The service guy was surprised that there was an open recall for a 2002 but they did it all free of charge.

I called my local dealer earlier today to confirm said recall. They told me the recall expired. I said a safety recall doesn't ever expire. They told me I'm SOL and then gave me the number for Toyota USA. Called them, they said they have no idea why they told me that. She called my local dealer, told her that they need to do the recall and there's no expiration on this recall. Going to have them order the LBJ's and take it in next week.

wouldn't it show up on dealer records if they did do the recall? Ive checked and see no records of the LBJs being replaced. or any recalls

Yes. If you haven't already, register on Toyota's website and put your VIN in your profile. It will show you any work done at a dealer.

I bought my 2002 earlier this year, my LBJs were changed out in 2006 under the recall.

That's screwed up. I think I'd consider having a word with the service manager. Anyone dealing with the public should be trained on these matters at least well enough to escalate it to the next level in an unusual circumstance. If you had driven from the dealership, hit the interstate, broke one, and had a rollover accident that killed someone you can bet the attorneys would want a word with them!

I'll be talking with the service manager when I go in. Especially on such a critical safety recall, you would think they would not even bat an eye.

After working for so many dealerships, I'm honestly not suprised though.

I have an '02 and I got the recall notice years ago - I think they were done when I had like 30k on it. Isn't there a deadline after which they stop doing them?

Nope. When it comes to a safety recall it's open ended, and doesn't even matter how many times its changed owners.

I believe this is only for 01-02. My friend has a 99 and it was not covered under the recall - he had to pay out of pocket for his replacements.

Appointment is confirmed and even got reminder phone call and email for my appointment but when I got there the service adviser said they did not have the fing part. Stealership did not even bother to check beforehand. I am the original owner and apparently they must have sold my recalled part for profit back in the day when I got letters to have it replaced. Car only has 40K. I booked a month ago. Now I have to go after holiday.

Also, what does check toe 1.2 mean. Guy wrote for my schedule service with recall. Is that even correct "1.2" for 4runner. Does this have to do with alignment.

Check your VIN at Lookup Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns by VIN Don't know about canada.

I picked up a '97 so I guess I'm out on the recall. I still want to replace them for safety though. Is this a job best done at a dealer or would an independent be OK? I don't have one in mind but was curious.
