Lower rate springs

I what to soften the springs on my runner. Personal preference. Not lower it, just a lower spring rate. I can adjust the height back to stock if I need to.

What fits? I see springs in the OME catalog with the right length and lower rate, but that doesn't mean they'll fit in struts for our cars. Our struts have a narrowed spring seat and flat-ground top mounts...can't just throw any spring on there.

Ideas?

What's your current specs? Springs from a 'lighter' version of the 4Runner will fit up front. (2WD springs *should* be softer than 4WD springs, etc.)

My '99 2WD dropped by about 3/4" when I did the 4WD swap... The stock 2WD front springs are still on there now, lifted back up with 5100's and a small top plate spacer to about 1.5" over stock (21.5" hub center to fender lip).

Yup...that's an option I'm looking into. Some say the Taco springs from the same vintage years are softer and the right length.

Springs from 4th and 5th gen 4Runners along with FJ Cruisers fit, but they are stiffer and will lift a 3rd gen. (generally around 1" - not sure on spring rate comparisons)

Newer vehicles will be heavier and have stiffer springs to compensate. Older 4Runners/Pickups have a different suspension design (torsion bars), so no compatible parts there. Make sure you avoid any 5-lug Tacoma stuff too.

Is it possible to swap out the spring seat and top hat on a 5100 strut to fit more generic springs? There are some in the OME catalog with the right overall length and rate, but they're straight open coils top and bottom.

The softest ride I've been in was with Toyota stock springs. They are a little pricey brand new but those coupled with the Tokico black shocks also from Toyota are as plush a ride as you'll find.
