LSD swap/leaf shackle swap

hey all. i was under my moms 91 ford explorer, doing some work installing a new spare tire housing, and i noticed that her leaf spring shackles are 5.5" long, and the ones on my runner are only 3" long. they dont have a crossbrace in the middle of them, is it possible to swap them with my shackles to get a "ghetto" lift, as this is my DD runner? its a 87 4runnner sr5 4x4 also, it just snowed out, so i found this nice fresh untouched field (i had permission to go on there by the way) and i was spinning 360's and practicing drifts all day. i left there and went to pick my girlfriend from work, and i took her back to the feild, and she took a few vid's of me on her phone. when she showed them to me, i realized that this truck had lsd, or some kind of a locker. so i told her to get behind the truck, and watch the tires, and sure enough, both tires spun out. moral of the story is, when she buys her new tacoma, could i take the lsd out and put it in my third member? thanks,

A 2.5" longer shackle would net about a 1.25" lift assuming the width of the shackle matches the one on the 4runner. Not to mention that putting a shorter one on the exploder will give it saggy butt. I'd suggest just buying a longer shackle from 4crawler or another company and installing one built for your truck.

Easiest way to tell if you have a locker or LSD is to jack up the rear end and turn one tire. If the other turnss the opposite way you're open, if it turns the same way you have something in there.

Taco's have an 8.4" diff if I'm not mistaken, yours is an 8".

i have already determined that i have an open diff on my runner. where do i measure to find the diff size on the exploder? where can i buy cheap, yet decent lift shackles? if that doesnt work, i can lincoln lock it (you know, brand of welder, lincoln, ha ha...funny? yea ok im done now) what other donor cars could i pull a LSD out of that would fir the diff on my runner>

OK, 1st off, you can't swap the Exploder rear into your Toy, won't fit, no way no how.

2nd, you might be able to swap shackles IF all the sizes matched up (fat chance!), but you'd have a saggy assed Exploder.

If you want to do a shackle lift, check out a reputable mfgr, and 4crawler is definetely is one.

Well, a ford 9" isn't exactly a popular swap in part but I wouldn't say it was impossible given a little welding skills. But it definitely ain't a bolt in part.

If I read it corectly, he didn't want to swap axles, he wanted to put the Explorer LSD into the Toy 3rd. (The very last sentence of the post.)

Ford parts just aren't interchangeable with Toy parts.
For starters the Explorer has an 8.8" ring gear while the Toy is 8".

Swapping the entire axle is another thing, and entirely possible.
