LSD, Worth it?

I was lurking on the tacoma forums, and found an LSD for sale for $100. But before I purchase it, I was wondering if it will be worth it. I know Im looking at about $200 to install it, bringing the total cost to $300.

My plan was to go through the LSD before installing it, and possibly sandblast the clutch disks to get a little more torque delivered to each wheel.

Should I do it, or will I not really notice any difference from my open diff?

There's definitely a difference in driving in snow in 2wd mode. But it's not something I'd go out of my way to install.

I ran an auto-locker in my Land Cruiser and after a bit of adjustment to my driving style I rarely noticed it. The auto-locker is much less forgiving than a limited slip so you should go for it IMHO. The difference a rear locker makes can be quite remarkable off-road.

sounds like fun
It would lead to some fun offroad drifts and mad donuts haha

Yeah thats what I was thinking. I would like a selectable locker, but its out of my price range. And the auto lockers I wouldn't wanna run on my daily driver, so that leaves limited slip. I guess ill go for it.

Also, has anyone ever tried to DIY shim a toyota LSD? That could make it more useful offroad too

hmm was also looking at putting an lsd on mine. maybe a truetrac or something.
did you ever get around to installing one?

Isn't the 3rd member on the tacoma different than the 4runner? I know I read that around somewhere.

Nope, never did it. I was gonna get a tacoma one, but as said by drewm, the tacoma that has an LSD from the factory has an 8.4" diff while the 4runners have the 8" so it will not fit. I toyed with the idea of a true trac, but in the end decided not to go through with it, at least until I regear and go 34's or 35's.
