What does everyone think about using Lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer? With Penzoil 20/50 for 88 4runner?

I used to use 10/40 with my 86 to keep the motor quiet. I hope you don't live in a cold climate and try to use 20/50

Oil by itself is a pretty stable chemical substance. In fact oil has been "around" since the age of dinosaurs.....

What do you think Lucas oil "stabilizer" is going to do for your oil then?

One thing is for sure: it will DE-stabilize [i.e., lighten] your wallet....!

Just use the correct viscosity/duty motor oil in the first place, enjoy some peace of mind & pocket the change!

What about Additives?

If you want thicker oil, go up a weight like kid v suggested. Why such a thick oil? Factory service manual recommends 10 dubb 30.

It is a band-aid of sorts. Yes, I have used it in older, very high mileage vehicles that seemed to have oil pressure issues. In my experience, it will keep the engine quieter for a while but if you need to use it, you will eventually have to rebuild or replace the motor anyway. However, 20w50 plus the Lucas is way too thick unless you live on the sun, even 20w50 by itself is too thick. If your dead-set on using the Lucas stuff, start by using the correct viscosity for your motor and substitute a quart of Lucas for a quart of oil. For colder climates, sub in a half quart to start with. BTW, what is wrong with your motor that your mechanic thinks you need it anyway?
