It is a band-aid of sorts. Yes, I have used it in older, very high mileage vehicles that seemed to have oil pressure issues. In my experience, it will keep the engine quieter for a while but if you need to use it, you will eventually have to rebuild or replace the motor anyway. However, 20w50 plus the Lucas is way too thick unless you live on the sun, even 20w50 by itself is too thick. If your dead-set on using the Lucas stuff, start by using the correct viscosity for your motor and substitute a quart of Lucas for a quart of oil. For colder climates, sub in a half quart to start with. BTW, what is wrong with your motor that your mechanic thinks you need it anyway?
