Yeah, I know what you mean, but I've seen a car hit a deer on an interstate, literally exploding the deer, and the car didn't even touch the brakes and just kept on going.

I am told that you should NOT try to avoid the deer if it comes into your path of driving. This is from my friend who lives in a small city where there are plenty of deers crossing the roads. This is why he always drives a truck and not a car.

Thai, my folks live in the hill country (San Marcos area) and encounter deer all of the time (big deer). If it's between your life and theirs....then the choice is easy. I will try to avoid them, but not perform some crazy maneuver to get out of the way....

I think what he's saying is you have a better chance of not hitting them if you stay on the straight path and don't do anything. Swerving will most likely increase your chances of hitting the deer because instinctively, if the deer is coming from the right, the driver will swerve to the left only to confirm the hit even more. I think i read that swerving to miss a dear barely decreases your chances of hitting it.
