Lurching at a stop....

Hello, I have a 2007 4Runner sport with 70k miles. I bought it 12 months ago. When I bought it from Toyota it had around 50k miles on it. Shortly after taking ownership I noticed that sometimes when I come to a stop... Like at a stop light where you may sit there for a minute or 2 the 4runner will lurch forward!it doesn't do it all the time..... I have had back to Toyota and there are telling me it is just shifting late??????

Anyone else have/had this issue?

Yes, Firelock, I too have this issue. My T4R has about 96k on the clock and it has been "lurching" forward from time to time for the past 15k miles. It only happens once or twice a week when I am sitting at a stop light but it has not gotten any worse. I am not having any of the "THUNK" that others have spoken about and thus, I think this is a completely different issue. But, YES, your T4R and mine, are downshifting late, while sitting still. I do not think there is much that can be done except maybe get your transmission fluid flushed and replaced. Will that resolve it? I have no clue, but it's certainly cheaper then a transmission rebuild (think around $2,000.00 to 2,500.00 for rebuild).

Hopefully, BLACKWORKSINC will see this thread and comment as he is a Toyota service technician and will have much greater insight on this than myself.
 
I've had this issue from time to time on my 07. I asked the dealership where I get my car serviced (who are quite good by the way), and they said to ease tension from the transmission, the car will lurch forward a bit so it's not as harsh on the transmission when you take your foot off the brake and apply to the gas. They also mentioned its known in both Tacomas and T4Rs.

This and my compressor quit working around 100,000 miles and before it failed it would lock up violently and make the engine surge and the vehicle would try and lurch forward while stopped.

The thunk is related to slip yoke clunk and plagues many vehicle of all makes and is quite annoying, however I am not buying that the transmission is downshifting after the vehicle is stopped.
 
mine does this too, I think mines caused by the ac coming on and off and the engine compensating for it
 
I have a new 2016 4runner and i have the same thing, stopped at red light, get a lurch like someone tapped my rear bumper. it makes me look back to make sure nobody hit me. I've searched around the forum and noticed a lot of posts of this but seems to apply to 2010-2012 etc tacos and some 4runners, I have not been able to find anyone posting similar for their newer 4runners. Some help?
 
this happens with my 2005 4runner sport as well. there were two occassions where the transmission shifted so late it stalled the trucked. i will be changing the tranny fluid soon to see if it helps.
 
Yeah for some reason it has do with the AC Compressor. I remember reading that switching to braided SS brake lines will help get rid of the problem.
 
My 2005 with 140K on it did it.

My 2008 with 120K that I just got does it.

My buddies 2006 with 198K does it.

My buddies 2006 V8 with 100K on it does it.

Im not too worried about it.

My 06 has 160k and does it and WS fluid has been changed.just live with it.
