Luv my 4runner even more now !

My trusty old girl at 390,000 kms is showing her age and thought I might look at a replacement in the form of a Subaru Forester. After looking at 3 five year old ones today it didn't take me long to realize how much better my girl was !
20 years old, but have not spent a dime on her since a new exhaust in Jan this year. Realized we have many more adventures yet. Long live my 4runner !

The more kilometers I put on my rig, the better I like it.

Don't be afraid about high mileage. This is only 250 000 miles, way less than some in here that are still going strong with only regular maintenance. KEEP IT!

I have put too many hours of work into it now replacing parts getting the frame welded etc. And yes the more I drive it the more proud I feel that I drive a 20year old rust free body 4runner. I doubt all these Ram, Silverado etc... Trucks will be around in 20 years and still running daily !!
My diff is howling at the moon currently, fearing a rebuild could be around the corner. Wife tells me constantly it's still cheaper to repair than a newer car loan ! She's very right.

Go to farm. They have old Ford and Chevy all over. They made them pretty good back in the day.

I love my Runner more than anything but it's not setup too great for a commuter so ended up with a Forester as my DD and couldn't be happier. These things handle snow and ice incredibly well, gets 30mpg, plenty of room, and just a fun car to drive - very capable off-roaders too. Not a bad choice for backing up the 4R.

I agree. We have a very capable Subaru Outback too. I would still entertain a Forester, just not the ones I looked at !
Can't quite get the Outback into the same places that the 4runner will get though ! Think I'd miss that.

That's a beautiful Outback you got there. I had a 2011 Outback that I really liked but I got slammed hard going down the mountain into a fog bank and totaled it. I really pushed that OB off-road before I got the Runner and was blown away how great it was going anywhere I wanted with a fresh foot of snow on the grounnd - I'll definitely be a Subie owner the rest of my life.

My wife and I are looking into getting a newer OB at the end of the year to replace her car. I'm quite excited at the thought of having my 4Runner and an OB.

I am on my 2nd 4runner.
About 15 years ago I drove a Sub Legacy in slush and was horrified by it's lack of performance; specifically the time to engage 4 wheel drive. I was almost done with the skid by powering out before it caught up with the situation. Subarus might have improved but there will never be a substitute for engaging 4 wheel drive with a lever.
