Maaco or 1-day Paint & Body or Neither?

Please help!

I need a paint shop to get my new sport hood painted and was wondering if either Maaco or 1-day Paint & Body are any good.

A guy at work recommended In & Out Paint and Body but it is a little more of a drive than I wanted with that gigantic hood in the back of my brother's truck. Steve Ganz of Carson Toyota recommended Bay Cities auto body but again that is even further from me. I emailed a couple other local shops for quotes including Gustafson Brothers.

I don't have a clue where to go..........any recommendations?

I've only heard bad comments about Maaco. If you want something touched up and you aren't planning on keeping it for long, I'd go with whatever is cheapest. But more than likely you'll want your truck for a while so spend the extra cheddar and get a good paint job.

Sorry I'm not in the same state so I can't recommend anything.

Maaco painted my Wrangler last year and it looks great BUT my concern wouldn't be the work but the quality of the paint and how it compares to whats already your your 4R. What would it cost to have Toyota paint it? You might want to look into that...

Here is the Jeep... and yes a year later it is fine...

Ok one bad for Maaco and one so-so. Thanks for the help guys. That was kinda my impression of them too.

As far as having Toyota paint it, I don't think that is an option. I think any toyo people I took it to would probably just hand it over to some local shop.

I would just find a reputable autobody shop in the area and have them do it. Make sure they warranty their work too.
 
I'd take it to a reputable body shop and have them paint it. There are many things that can go wrong if the paint process isn't done correctly. If you plan on having a factory paint job, or something close to it, look for a body shop that has special paint booths that are sealed from the surroundings. This is important so that no contaminants can adhere to the surface or paint during painting, which can cause fisheyes.

Just my two cents.
 
Had my previous car a Black Lincoln LS painted (due to fender bender) at Maaco and was satified until about 1 year later when the paint started to crack and peel off in a small area on the bumper. I recommend nothing but the dealership personally.
 
Longo Toyota in El Monte, CA (10/605).

Their bodyshop is top notch and will make sure it matches the factory stuff :) two thumbs up no doubt about it.

It's abit out of your area but it's worth every penny for your 4runner.

I was wondering what type of work you've had them do. I have a pretty large gash on our other car and I want to have it repaired. Longo is on my list, but haven't heard much about them (I've only had experience with Wondries and Marco's). Thanks!
 
just make sure they warranty your work for at least a year. i think you should be fine if you don't get flaking and such within a year.

I got my Wrangler painted at Maaco and the job I got came with a 4 year warranty... Not that I would recommend Maaco for my T4R but it is/was fine for my older Wrangler.
 
The best thing to do is to visit the shop and look at the cars they have already completed. For the most part they have a couple of cars in the parking lot waiting for pickup. It really depends on the people they have at the shop, and how picking the owner is. My Dad has worked for as a painter for Macco for years and they always come out great. However a few times when my Dad was not there, the cars could come out acceptable to nasty.

Cool, I'll give them a call, and hopefully it won't be too much $$$$. :confused: I called the place Carson Toyota recommended and they said $550. :(

So, which shop is your dad in and when is he working!!! :p
 
He is the San Bernardino Macco by the 10 and 215. Unfortunately he will not be painting your truck, years of painting have taken the best of him and he can't paint cars without having chest pains. I have not seen their work since the new owner came in. The dealer is a great place to get your truck painted, but they are usually the most expensive choice. There are lots of good local shops that have good work and are much more affordable, it is just a matter of inspecting their completed work and making sure the warranty is a good one.
 
I haven't had the luxury of personally using Longo for their body repair services but I've had friends use them and man I tell you, if you have a Toyota or Lexus, they are the person to go to.

Their prices are competative w/ others out there and you're guaranteed it's oem stuff so no worries :)

I know many ttora and yotatech members have gone to them with no hassles.

I mentioned this in your other thread, but just in case you missed it--

I don't think you can just add the hoodscoop from the Sport onto your Limited hood. The hood on the Sport is shaped for the hoodscoop opening. If I'm not mistaken, you are planning to install the hoodscoop opening into your stock Limited hood, correct?

If so, how will it fit? Your hood doesn't rise in the center like the Sport Edition hood.
 
It sounds like Luxury just bought a new Sport hood, not just the scoop. At least that is my understanding.

Do not take it to maaco! If you want quality take it to a good well known local shop. Especially how you take care of your T4R.
You don't want to do the job twice. Do it right the first time and you won't have any worries.
 
I would not use Maaco or any other fly by night shop... I would find a toyota collision shop and take it there. I mean, think about it, the hood scoop is a pretty big focal point of your truck. If it looks like crap, you will notice and so will everyone else. From my experiences its worth the money to pay a good shop to paint it. I used maaco once and I got what I paid for.
