Made a Big Mistake, Sat my Wife in a 2016 LC

We agreed tonight to look at the truck again this fall, the project now is gut the kitchen and remodel, have it ready for the fall and then look at finding a 2016 model that is still on the lot.

As many stated, this is not a large seller for obvious reasons. When we purchased her 2012 Expedition in February 2012, a local Toyota dealer had a 2010, new, still on the lot. Could not sell it. Gas was $4 a gallon then, could have been a reason. They were willing to give is a great deal, but we passed.

I could see us is keeping the LC for 15 plus years, she drives 8000 to 10000 miles a year

Not sure where you live but if you do an Internet search you will see new LCs discounted to $72,000 in some areas. That would be worth a road trip, or even plane trip.

Yep I did the same thing. I dropped my 2010 4Runner off for service and my friend who works at Toyota throws me the key to a black 2011 land cruiser for a loaner (had 8 miles and all the protective plastic on it still) because he knows I've always loved them and says "be careful, your gunna love it I guarantee it." I pulled out of the lot, drove to my wife's work to show her then drove home (15-20 min drive) called him and told him to keep my 4Runner and draw up the paper work for the new land cruiser because he wasnt getting it back. I love the 2016 refresh but I'm not a fan of the two huge screens for the rear passengers. I am going to look at one on Tuesday when I drop my land cruiser off for its 40k service.

Fwiw I had a 2006 Range Rover sport and I know why your uncle traded it in, piece of crap and problematic to say the least.

Just placed my order on a 2016. Actually more than just the eight speed in updates. Basically a complete redesign and many new features.

Problem I found is used are still expensive and new I got basically 10k off sticker.

I will have to remember this. We are going to remodel first, then decide on looking, 10K off of sticker is great.

Pennsylvania but just go to cars.com and search new 2016 and you will see the lowest prices. I used that to get what I wanted. One local dealer wanted 77k for a manager lc with 6500 miles. I hate my local dealer so I drove ten miles and paid less for a brand new one lol

Don't listen to the dealers tell you they don't get many and in demand etc. lc always sit on the lots. Only sell few thousand a year.
 
Somebody explain how the LC is so great !! What can it do that the 4runner cant? I get the interior is better, is it the reliability factor? All this talk is making want to test drive one.

If you can afford the LC, it's just a "one up" of the 4runner in most if not all regards. Nicer finishes, nicer leather, all touch-surfaces are one notch nicer.
Drinks a tad more gas, maybe less with the extra gears. Bone dead reliable.

Aside from the V8 and 8 speed auto, Its generally "beefier" all the way around. Its built for a 25 year service life so things like, trailing arms, control arms, axle housing, ball joints, protection, etc is all just a bit better. It also doesn't share many parts with other platforms so its more expensive to produce. Add all the fit and finish upgrades and I think thats how you get a truck that cost $45k more that a 4runner.
 
One thing, people are saying to compare the Land Cruiser to the Lexus GX, but that's not a good comparison. The GX is an upscale 4Runner. A comparison for the Land Cruiser would be the Lexus LX (2016 Lexus LX). It's basically a LC with different badging and trim pieces. It's also listed at a comparable price, except even more expensive.

Second, this doesn't sound like a "willy nilly" purchase. You are taking your time and considering it. You are putting higher priority purchase (refinished kitchen) first. You sound like you are financially in a good place and are able to pay cash. If you take care of it this vehicle will last decades.

Since your wife wants it, I honestly can't think of a better birthday or Christmas present after you finish the kitchen.

Yes, a brand new vehicle with a huge red bow is a cliche, but is she worth it?

I was hoping it wasn't a big difference to the 4Runner but once you drive both you will see. Honestly night and day.
Definitely feels heavier more capable and more luxurious.
Thought to understand the price difference but once you drive it you will want one.

Can't wait till mine shows up. Capability wise I can't say for sure but the lc gets all the top end goodies to go off-road. Better than the 4Runner? Not sure but I would guess yes
