Made in US made in Japan ...a difference???

Bumping an old thread from the depths of forum hell. But to answer the question of the OP. You know you’re getting quality made items simply from the vast difference of work culture and ethics between the US and Japan. This topic may be offenseive to some hard working Americans out there who do happen to bust their ass and take pride in their craft, but the sad reality is that the majority of today’s American workforce work for the check and get out regardless of quality of effort and service put in their workmanship. I’m not saying Japan does not have any rotten refs either, but it also stems from how children and reared and grown into the importance of being a productive member of society and putting in maximum in effort in what they do no matter what it is. Sure, you can still say that there is still some of that in the US.. BUT in NO WAY the same level of degree in Japan. Just see how the education system is between Japan and the US. There’s so much resources via YouTube and misc forums we’re many people have documented the differences objectively.

As an American it’s sad to see as whole how our work culture has slowly dwindled in quality.

Spot on. That was definitely worth reviving this thread. I totally agree with what you said. About 25 years ago I was a Nissan tech and the instructor at a factory training I went to told us this. The difference between the Japanese and American vehicles is the overall mindset. With the Japanese, their driving principle is quality. With the Americans it's money. I've seen no reason to ever doubt that.

Same across the pond. But it's not all your average worker's fault.

I am a tradey (Hence wanting a truck) and the equipment/materials we have to use can also be utter crap, no matter how determined you are to do a good job. Buildings designed and built with no thought or care for access or future maintenance, or appearance after a few years.

I think you guys call it the Malaise Era for cars? We had that too in the 70s, awful crap churned out by British Leyland etc. Blame on both sides, but not all the fault of the guys who were holding the screwdrivers.

We recently added a RAV4 to the family. The RAV's are made in both north america and japan. When browsing dealer inventory, we would only consider VIN's starting with J. I'm sure the quality is the same no matter where the vehicle is made, but for us, there was value added in a unit assembled in Japan.
