Magnaflow #12256 on a 4.7 V8

Just got it on. Just a muffler, stock CAI and a dumped tail pipe.

Yeah, i wanted this rig to be a little more family friendly than the FJ I sold. We have a 6month old baby and the wife wasn't crazy about how loud the FJ was. Usually magnaflows sound better over time too.
 
I'll get more sound clips, the battery was dying when I did that one. Out the door was $180. WOuld of been $140, but I wanted to tuck up the tail pipe.

Do you have any drone? I had the entire cat-back Magnaflow system, but had to get rid of it because of the drone. Great gas mileage but I was afraid of ruining my new born daughter hearing.

If I just replace the muffler, will I have the drone?

I replaced just the muffler on mine Friday. I'm not sure the part number, but it's the common, universal Magnaflow-whatever they had in stock. Most likely the same the OP used.
I'm still playing with mine, not sure if I like the extra noise or not.
I do have significant drone at 2k-2500 rpms. NO noise at idle, great sound when I stomp the gas. The drone is what I'm worried about b/c I do quite a bit of highway driving. We'll see.
 
Nope, no drone at all. I'm working on getting another sound clip...remodeling my kitchen right now.

No drone? I wonder what the difference between yours and mine is? Mine is not dumped, but I would think dumping causes more drone, not less?
Are there different Magnaflow models? The muffler shop gave me what they said was the "quieter" Magnaflow, but I didn't think there were very many options w/ Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster w/ several different ones to chose from. Have you had yours on the interstate? The only drone that I can't stand is at appx 2k rpm when cruise is set on 70-75mph.
 
Magnaflow offers a boat load of universal fit mufflers. They come in differendt lengths, shapes (round or oval), and configurations. Take a look at magnaflows web site and you'll see there isn't just one standard magnaflow.

oh, and magnaflows tend to get louder as they age, so if you don't like it now, not sure you'll be happy 5,000 miles from now.

Yes, i've had it on the freeway, no drone.

It's growing on me, but still louder than I thought I was getting. Looks like I got the cheaper polished muffler, you got SS. SS wouldn't quieter would it? Maybe I'm just a pansie when it comes to the noise. I've never had any V8 or any type of "pipes" before. Might just take some getting used to, or maybe dumping it is the ticket. Like I mentioned before, I just though dumping would cause more noise in the cabin, but maybe I'm wrong.
