Magnaflow cat-back picts & write-up

Got my Magnaflow cat-back yesterday and threw it on this morning. It's a very simple install. Just two bolts in the front, two bolts over the rear axle, remove the stock sytem, then hang the Magnaflow pieces and bolt them back together and you're done.

It's great to be able to hear the V8 now. I drive a mustang with a full headers-back exhaust, so I'm not used to a quiet cabin. There's no drone with this Magnaflow set-up (people who complain must never of driven cars with modified exhausts before), but you can definately hear the truck now when you're on the gas. It's very well-mannered at cruising speeds - the wife and I were able to carry on conversation on the freeway this evening just fine.

Which would you rather have?

I'm thinking magnaflow needs to send me a new tailpipe section. Mine is welded crooked and looks like crap. Seeing yours nice and straight makes me want to call them.

Looks good. How much is it? I'm thinking about getting one of those.

Got it locally for $380.

I do all my work on jack stands, except on my wife's truck with I can work beneath just on my creeper. I would love a lift, my dream house will have one. I replaced the whole front suspension on my mustang on jack stands (look in background):

go to performancepeddler.com and call or chat with brad, I jus got mine for $400 shipped. Installed today, so far Im lovin the sounds and the looks of it :)

the sound will deepen and become slightly louder over time all depending on how hard you push the truck. Mines pretty loud these days but I certainly use ever Rev that the engine will give me.

The sound is fantastic. Quiet enough cruising, good throaty gurgle on acceleration... it actually sounds like there's a V8 there, which it didn't at all with the stock system.

If you run it all the way to the top it's a little raspy, but I attribute that to the absolutly horrid junction between the passenger and driver side pipes just after the first set of cats (if you haven't looked, it takes the two 2" pipes and crushes them in half and brings them together). As soon as my extended warranty is up I'm welding in a true Y junction there, should help a lot.

Mike,

its a known issue with a few of us here, that the Xpipe or Upipe or Wpipe or whatever letter that corresponds to those connecting pipes is horrid, one member did make a cut and weld junction that apparently was much better for gas scavaging and exhaust velocity while ridding alot of the rasp. Also the after cat resonators could have an effect on those as well.

I took some in-car recordings yesterday, I'll post 'em when I turn them into sound clips.

I would love to see those. I took in-car video of mine with just a flowmaster muffler.

I just did mine today and it wasnt so easy for me...Had to cut the old exhaust due to locked up bolts and the clamps that holds the muffler to the intermediate pipe broke on me.

By the way the new clamp i bought from napa auto is waaaay better than the ones magnaflow provides, if your having exhaust leak issuses go to napa and pick up a set.

Also the instructions say to use the short pipe for v8 but the longer one ended up being the right one?

Mine is a 03' Limited v8

Re: magnaflow

Here's mine I also Got from performance peddler 380.00 shipped to me here in cali. after 2 mos. sounds awesome, no drone with my K&N intake sounds like a healthy v8
