Magnaflow hi-flow cat?

Isn't there a Magnaflow hi-flow catalytic converter for the V6 3rd gen?

I wouldn't say it's specifically for the V6 3rd gen, but yes.

Did your cat get stolen? If not your factory cat is probably better than an aftermarket even at 14 years old.

what about just gutting the stock one any improvments over stock or better then high-flow?

I dont see the point in replacing a perfectly good CAT with a "hi flow" one. My exhaust guy said the he doesnt suggest taking the cats off our trucks, especially since they are like $600

My 99 just failed the NO@ part of the emmisions test. I ordered the 51006 to replace it. Will this be ok? They said to use the 51202 but is too short when I cut the old one out(about 1/4inch at each end to weld on to).

Oh. I never knew that.. I thought people replace their cats for a better exhaust flow throughout the system. Like performance increase.

They do, however some vehicles have very good flowing stock components. I wasn't aware the 4Runner was one of those vehicles though.

Also I'm no engineer nor do I understand fluid dynamics but it's my theory that gutting out the cat will actually hurt exhaust gas velocity which is crucial to a well performing exhaust. You have a small diameter pipe and are trying to force a lot of air through it, then introduce it to a very large diameter pipe(the empty cat) and then back to a small diameter pipe. This in theory would drastically slow the exhaust gasses. Correct me if I am wrong.

Something someone suggested in post #5, it's basically cutting open the stock cat an removing everything from the inside and welding it back shut.

ok i agree with your theory it makes sense what you said but what about just getting rid of the cat all together putting a straight pipe where the stock cat was doesn't get any better then that flow wise

this is saying that your state/county doesn't have emissions
