Magnetic Grey -- Too Magnetic

So, 11 years with my last SUV, not ONE accident with it. Get the new 4R and hit the garage door with an open tail gate a couple months ago (my stupid fault) then today...walk out to my 4R at work, oh, you did not need that tail light assembly did you?!?! I guess someone with a trailer or delivery truck backed into the light, smashed it but did not damage to the rest of the 4R. Called the dealer, part will be here by the end of the week. Going to dig into it tomorrow, make sure there is not 'unseen' damage when I remove the fixture. Seriously though, 11 years and not one problem, then 2 within a year with the new 4R. Like I said, this magnetic grey is pulling in problems....arrrg! (of course, no note btw)

Tucked in the garage for the night, crossing my fingers nothing damaged inside, dealing with the bulb assembly and such.

Just be glad both incidents were minor. If your work uses surveillance cameras in the parking lot, ask security if you can review them to see if it caught the guy that hit you.

Gald they are minor mishaps; hopefully that will be it for another 11 years. Out of curiosity, how hard was it for you to get an SR5 with leather in Mass?

That sucks, but I had to chuckle when I read about the taillight. Those taillights stick out so far from the body that I'm surprised more of them haven't been smashed yet!

I agree with the others..good that the damage was not extensive! Hopefully, it will get fixed quickly and the thing will look like new. Good luck!

Gald they are minor mishaps; hopefully that will be it for another 11 years. Out of curiosity, how hard was it for you to get an SR5 with leather in Mass?

Actually I told the dealer exactly what I wanted in October, they called me in November to tell me 'my' 4R had arrived. It was the 1st one at their dealership and one of the 1st ones in my area. My dealer usually has a couple in stock, one LE and one SR5 with leather, seems to be the way people in this local area like them. I do not think I have seen a single TE at my dealer, but there are some at surrounding dealers.

Yes, I agree with others, the lights do stick out, surprised as well not more have been damaged. Hopefully parts will be in tomorrow. Had to also order the bulb holders as well because they were damaged too. Will let you know how the install goes.

That sucks man! I had someone hit my Lexus GS300 (before I upgraded to my Trail!) in a parking lot and leave. Someone saw it happen and got a partial tag number. The police and insurance company didn't even care to investigate, I was surprised but I guess it's not even worth their time.

Ok, so got the new light in the other day & did the replacement. Removing the old light was a pain in the you know what! Removed the 2 nuts from the bolts on the light assembly on the inside and pulled, barley moved! The light actually slides into clips along the body as well, I wanted to be gentle (somewhat) so I took my time but ended up having to pull almost hard enough to fall over when they released. Now, I do not know if that because of the damage to the light assembly the removal was harder than it should have been (the bolts were not bent one bit though). The new light slid right into place without trouble. I also had to get the 3 socket holders for the bulbs and they were damaged and replacement bulbs. The old sockets did work but you could see where the plastic was cracked/chipped on them so figured I would be safe and get new ones. Currently I am waiting for the 'back up light' socket and bulb as they were on back order, everything else is in and working fine. It is interesting to see oen plug go into the light assembly yet operate all 3.

Also the diagram of the parts they pulled up at Toyota was not correct, well half and half. It showed all the parts, but the order of the bulbs/sockets was not correct. The bottom 2 needed to be flip flopped. I opened the new light and showed them the different sizes and how the do not correspond to the sheet, which they agreed, but since I needed everything was not a big deal to me.

There is a little damage on the top corner of the plastic bumper where it meets the tail light, does not sit as flush as I like so I might remove the light again to see if there is anything I can tweak inside/under it.
