Have you noticed that almost every Ford Explorer has a cracked area just below the glass? Usually happens in colder weather and is the product of slamming the gate shut.
With ours having a retractable rear window, I am glad we get this assist.
I love my close assist! Only wish that my doors had it too like a Mercedes. If anyone ever goes to close my hatch I always emphasize to them to simply let the weight of the hatch close itself. It'll softly click, latch shut, and amaze them.
