Mail Order Tire Question

1). I've never ordered tires online before, are there any pitfalls or complications to look out for vs. buying locally?

2). I've spent about 6 hrs reading the various tire posts and I have to say you guys sure are passionate about your tire preferences. Am I correct in summing it up this way; if drive primarily off-road then choose TA KO's, if you drive occasionally off-road then choose Revo's?

BTW, when the pavement ends here in West Texas the roads are paved with calichi (sp?). Hard as a rock when dry, alternates between dog snot slippiery and wet cement when it rains.

I've ordered tires through Tirerack twice without any problems. I've heard some places don't like to mount tires that weren't purchased from them, but I've never had a problem getting them mounted and balanced.

I've ordered from Tirerack.com and discounttire.com and no problems from either. I haven't had any problems from local tire places to mount the tires either.

I personally like to but local when it comes to tires. I can usually get them just as cheap , once you figure in shipping , mount & balance , lifetime rotation ect......

TIRERACK Rules, especially when its to hawaii......I got Kumho's on mine and Sears was the only place that would order em but they could only get the HR rated ones, I got the VR rated ones way cheaper .....

You can have the tires sent directly to a local shop (which work with Tirerack) for mounting so you dont have to wait around at home for UPS to drop off your order, then load em up and take em down.....just make the appointment with your local shop and they'll be there already.

I WILL definitely be ordering my next set from them.

I've heard nothing but good things about Tire Rack, but what I usually do is get them from the only dealer I like around here or from a local shop.

Why? Because it's cheaper. I have never had a problem with any local place matching Tire Rack's prices or even beating them, plus you save on the shipping, which I think is like ten bucks a tire or so. All you have to do is ask and I'll bet the local places will match or beat the price.

That was my experience when I bought my Revos. The local Bridgestone dealer got close -- but when you factored in shipping and mounting, the local place was cheaper. Now, when I have a problem (had one about 2 months ago), the service manager knows me as a customer and takes care of the issue right away. There is a definite benefit to having the local people to work with.
