Main Bearing Clearances

I used plastigauge on my main bearing clearances today and find that my new clevite bearings are really border line for max oil clearance if not out. The max is .0031". I checked my old ones to find that they are a little thicker and the oil clearance is definitely in spec right around .0026". What should I do? Use the old ones?

No advice huh?

Well call me crazy, but I lapped the bolting surfaces of the journals, really only taking off the high machining marks -- the lower maching marks are still visible -- so maybe .0002" max off each face and the gauging comes out now right about .0025" using the new bearings. I decided I felt better lapping and using new bearing rather than not and using the old bearing. Sure the journals are slightly more eccentric now, but we are just splitting already split hairs.
