Maintenance by mileage or months?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on maintenance on my 4Runner. So, I drive a 2010 4Runner (purchased in November of 09). It's currently at 33,xxx miles and the Maintenance light is solid. The last checkup I did was at 28,xxx miles. I've been reading that you should do maintenance every 6 months or 5k miles, but I've just been doing every 5k miles, not 6 months, since the car doesn't get used that often (as you can tell by the low mileage)

Basically, what I'm trying to figure out from you guys (the experts) is whether or not what I've been doing is alright or if I should move toward the every 6 months schedule.

This is what the Toyota Maintenance guide suggests for 35k miles compared to what it suggests for 72 months (coming up in 4 months)

I guess I'm also confused as to what my car needs at this point in it's life. I don't drive off road and I drive carefully. I can't tell if I should be measuring it's health using the mileage or the months.

Thanks for reading and thanks for all the help!

Just as it appears... Maint. due by mileage or time, whichever occurs first. If you only drive 4200 in 5 months, have the Toyota recommended maint. performed.
