Well, having the pleasure of getting my T4R new I have begun do to research on all the maintenance required to make this a 300,000+ mile vehicle. I am fairly conservative on my approach to maint, so for the most part I am going to strictly follow all the Toyota recommended service, with the exception of an extra oil change after the first 2000 miles with dino oil and then start using synthetic at 5000 miles and perform changes every 5k afterwards.

The only problem is I am a total newb when it comes to car maint. When I say total newb I have never changed my own oil, changed a tire, jacked up a vehicle, etc. I'm an IT geek and can tear down and build servers with ease but vehicles are a different story. I am not really intimidated to do any of these tasks, but just need guidance.
Here is my point. I want to do my own maintenance (the most I can do within reason - before taking it to the dealer), and I would be willing to extensively document with photos and writeups (possibly videos?) that directly correspond to the suggested Toyota maint. schedule. I think there are quite a few other guys out there like me who are fully capable of doing thier own maint but are just afraid/intimidated and would rather just hand the dealer thier hard-earned money as opposed to get to know thier Runner more "intimately".
Problems:
1) I can only document/writeup what I have: an 06 Limited 6 cyl 4X4. Perhaps others can volunteer to do the same on diff engines?
2) I don't have many tools. That's OK, I like buying tools.
May need help with advice on what to get though.
3) If anyone local (STL) wants to gather for tech days or to help feel free to PM me. If it helps, my wife and I both work for a beer company.
So, basically, what I am saying is I'm going to do this no matter what, but if it is something people would want I would go through the trouble of making some pretty good documentation on it.
P.S. Yes, I know there are many DIY threads and posts out there on these topics but for a novice like me I think many talk over my head.
Any thoughts?
