I am not trying to be the oil police but dumping used motor oil is just bad news. Even if it is on your own property you are not doing anyone any favors by dumping it and not dropping it off for FREE at a local service shop.

If everyone was dumping oil think of what would happen:sadwave:

Yes, lol. How big is this pit? Did you put a tarp or something on the ground before hand? (I know a tarp will not hold the oil in)

Ive done it before myself plenty of times but i wouldnt broadcast it on the internet Not trying to be a smartass but alot of people take it more serious and can hit you really hard for doing that

i have 260k miles on my 4runner, would it be a bad idea to switch to synthetic motor oil? i heard that switching to sythentic when the car is that old is not a good idea..any ideas?

Front End 2nd Gen Axle n Bushes Q

hey just wondering if someone could tell me the type of front axle/diff the 2nd Gen Petrol 4Runners have? Also i wanna know what exactly the steering bushes are coz we're a bit confused.

Oil Change Directions

I've got a '98 Ltd 4WD with 97,500 miles on it. I put about 6,000 to 7,500 miles a year. I always take my truck to the dealership for an oil change. The reminder sticker says to change every 5,000 miles, and I believe they use regular oil. Is this okay, or should I be using a synethic and have the oil changed every 3,000 miles?

Synthetic oil means that you can change it less often. Like every 7,500 miles or more.

As far as synthetic on high mileage vehicles, it is not bad at all, and in fact can be better. The catch is that old engines sometimes have poor gaskets that have dried, rotted, or corroded. Conventional oil leaves varnishes over time on the components it touches. This varnish can actually clog leaks in gaskets. When you switch to synthetic oil, it will clean these varnishes and can cause the gasket to leak. Google it, you will find alot of info about it.

Bottom line, synthetic won't cause problems, but it may reveal problems. I just like it because it lasts longer than conventional.
