Major problem gents (HELP PLEASE!)

I was driving home, and feathered the brake then went to break like normal and NO BRAKES! Totally stiff like no give at all (unassisted braking) so I pump it as pull the e brake and my **** just barely stops. While I was slowing down the brakes did engage and slowed me down just in time.

Just started today but the brakes go and come. I've noticed they always work on the first compressions, but if I feather it and then compress it, no dice.

Iknow it's not a lot but I just **** bricks and I'll do my own research too but maybe someone can just chime in and help me out.

I'm not sure what is going on but I would start by pulling off the front wheels and inspecting pads, rotor, and break line. I would also inspect rear lines. Look for damage in the lines, kinks or other wear. Then try bleeding the lines starting at the highest point which I think is above the diff in the rear. Not sure where in the front. Then bleed at the wheels. Hopefully someone smarter than me chimes in too.

i have had some brake issues myself over the past few weeks....replace ur Master Cylinder...should be good after that...sounds like ur losing pressure somewhere, could be ur brake booster also...but start with MC...my opinion...

I guess I'll get a junk yard one and test it like that.

ok, first those are 2 different things.

no brakes would be the pedal dropping to the floor. thats bad, real bad.
but, a hard pedal, no assist, that sounds like the booster. but you should still be able to stop, it just takes a LOT of effort.

but, it could also be a bad MC, hard to tell from here... what does the fluid look like? when was the last time it was bled?

Don't buy junkyard stuff for the brakes, you buy new, you NEED to stop, you can cheap out in other places.

very true. master cylinders aren't that much anyway.

may as well test it so you replace the faulty compenent the first time.

sounds like a bit of an odd problem I haven't encountered yet... check your vacuum line to the booster, make sure the check ball works. in other words make sure there's no vacuum leak.

may or may not be helpful but if there's little or no engine vacuum (like if you were on the gas for example) you will have no power assist.

to rule out your master cylinder... take off the cap (make sure not to splash on the paint) and depress the brake pedal. note that it should only splash on first engagement. if it keeps splashing out as you push the pedal, that's your problem.

it also may be characteristic. likely not though.

edit: also check to make sure you have smooth engagement of the pedal and rod that goes into the booster. I could see that binding up occasionally.

I guess I was a little unclear in my post, and arrested around with it this morning.

Ok so, when I press the brake I hear normal pressure sound made when pressing brakes. (like a normal light noise) then if I release it then press it again it has no assistance and the pedal is super stiff but can be compressed (with the force of jesus) but while my foot is on the pedal it the vacuume? Kicks in and it begins to brake my car with assistance ..

Based off of this I'm almost sure it's the brake booster since that would cause irregular vacuume issues , right? If I had a leak id get no assistance at all and it wouldn't come back (once compressed the assistance does kick back in) correct?

Thanks in advance guys and yes guys, I had to drive mommys f-150 :,(

Where are you at in Htown? I am in Meyerland. If you are close we can meet. I will help diagnosis and work, then we can play in the mud!

you shouldnt hear any noise. a noise means a leak.
the booster is bad.
that is assuming its a vacuum booster, and i believe it is.

brake boosters are usually not cheap $250- $300ish.
I usually go down to Freeport and have fun down there. I go fishing in the morning and offroad on the way home. Got stuck a few times too. I have never heard of Sugar Hill Offroad Park but am intrigued.
If If you ever want to meet up or go offroading let me know. PM me.
