Alrite guys , so I finally figured out what's going on with my 4Runner, and it's not good. Long story short , my rear axle housing is bent. I have a friend that is willing to help me do a swap. Called Toyota and a complete new housing is close to 2k plus labor. I'm thinking my best bet is to start calling junkyards and checking craigslist... Has any done this project, what were your results. Thanks

Yea it looks like I'm gonna go the junk yard route , gonna start making calls today... I bought my 4Runner used in March. Thought I did all my research but I guess not . The 2 rear tires were worn on the insides . I figured the person selling the truck had those tires on the front with a bad alignment and swapped them to the back to look better for the sale. Local tire shop also said that's most likely the case. Well the one rear tire started to get really bad, so I put on my full size spare to hold me over until I got my lift and new tires... After a month or so with the spare I just happened to notice the brand to spare was wearing bad on the inside of the tire . And rite then it hit that something else was wrong. Took it to my local 4x4 shop, they put it up on the lift and told me what was going on . Does Anyone local to NJ ,know of any junk yards with 4 runners , seems a lot hard to find on the east coast

Define easy. I think this is only the second or third instance I've seen. Is it really that easy/common?

Alrite guys, I'm the OP of the thread. Just wondering another thing, hopefully someone has an answer. So my 4Runner is an 08 with 3.73 gears, I found the empty housing for an 03 truck. I read somewhere that 03 and 04's came with 3.73 or 3.91's I believe . I'm trying to figure out , if my gears and axle shaft will fit into 03 housing regardless of what gears were in there originally Thanks, John

Yes, the tubes are weak or thin. My son got bumped by a pickup, barely did any damage to the body but the pickup hit the left rear tire and bent the axel tube enough that it had to be towed. My other son bent the other side when it was hit by a Camry. MI have read a lot of posts where guys have trouble with rear alignments and tires scrubbing. Most have bent axil tubes.

03 and 04 v6 4 speeds came with 3.91's, not sure if the v8's did, but i know those models did
