Manifold Replacement

I just joined and want to say hello and thank you in advance for your assistance.

I own a 2005 V8 limited with 142k on it. I recently had an oil change at the dealer and they did a complimentary inspection. I told them I had a rattle noise and thought it was the plate underneath the engine. I was told the left manifold, gasket, and insulator needed replacement for a cool $1500 +. Is this necessary to do and is there a workaround....I don't want to drop that type of cash at this time.

Did you here the rattle constantly, or was it intermittent (i.e. just when you were stopped or just in park etc.)?

If you search the forum you'll find many posts on cracked manifolds. I had my right one replaced and the new one has cracked too. Toyota didn't redesign the part so it's very likely to crack again. It's not necessary to fix it. I changed mine because I could stand the ticking sound the leak made.

If you can stand the tick, leave it. If not, just run the engine sans exhaust :) Kidding, but seriously, Nathana92 custom fit TRD headers onto his V8, so why not ask him about the mod? Maybe you can get this done with some of the stock sequoia or tundra manifolds (so you don't have that beautiful, loud VROOM from Cat-less headers.)
