Manual Clutch Recomendations

I have a 1999 SR5 With a 5-Speed manual Transmission. I am looking to get a new clutch, i recently let a friend drive it and he smoked it. I was wondering what clutch kits are available and what your recomendations are. Its just a stock motor with 148,000 miles on it.

it woulda gone soon anyways, thats about how long mine lasted with pretty good clutch driving...

edit: I went with your general Toyota OEM... it lasted me about 150-160k the first time, should be good for another round...

150-160k is what I get out of mine with the Toyota OEM.

I agree, 148,000 miles is about time to replace it anyway.

I have had some after market clutches that get about the same amount of miles but the pilot bearing seems to go out faster than the Toyota ones.

The last clutch on my Toyota pickup was from Napa and had a little over 150,000 when it started to make some noise. When I replaced it, the clutch still looked good but the pilot bearing was turning to dust and was making all the noise. This was the second time for me that an after market pilot bearing went out before the clutch.

I like the Marlin Crawler clutches. I have a TRD that is pretty nice too.

I have the Marlin Crawler clutch in my 87 4Runner.
It works well for daily driving and wheeling.
Marlin sourced all the best parts from different kits to make one kit that is great. Read up on it at their site.

Toyota does make some great stuff, but it is possible to improve upon their designs, IMHO.

Just went through the same decision...

If you are hard on a clutch... Marlin Crawler does offer HD clutches for a great price.

I wanted to stick with stock... check out trail-gear.com, they sell stock AISIN clutches.

Trail-Gear Inc > Clutch Kits

I called several toyota dealers for pricing, but all they could get was refurb'd clutches, I didn't want to go that route for a replacement clutch.
