i have a 88 4runner with auto hubs and the right front hub is destroyed. my question is can i replace both auto hubs with manual hubs. if so is there anything special that needs to be addressed. i can do all this work myself so its not a big deal if it is labor intensive. all new auto hubs is too expensive. thanks for any advice.

I would definately go manual. Toyota doesn't have the problems that many other manufactureres have. That is Chevy and Jeep are pretty bad with a few Fords in there as well--- They have problems goin' into 4wheel drive due to solenoids, or vacuum...

It should be pretty easy to convert over, Though I haven't done a conversion....

thanks soundguy. hte second article answered every question i had. i guess i will be ordering hubs tomorrow.

all u need is the 54mm nuts and the lock nut that goes in between. u can get these nuts off any toyota 4wd, solid axle or ifs, doesnt matter. i have one good auto hub if u want though, $10

To avoid any confusion from the above statement, while the nuts from a solid axle or IFS axle may work (or not), the solid axle and IFS hubs ARE NOT interchangeable.

i received my manual hubs today installation was a snap. i bought the warn premium hubs and the conversion kit, cost was $250. it took me about 1 hr to install. thank you all for your input.
