Manual Locking Hubs ????????????

I have a 1996 4Runner.
I have been explained last night that I could save on gas and general wear by installing 2 manual locking hubs in front. What do you think?

I think you need to become friends with Google.

Short answer is no, you won't notice any difference in fuel costs, and unless you've got significant suspension lift without a diff drop you won't notice any difference in CV wear either.

I have them on my 96 and pretty much agree with the negligible fuel economy difference and sure, cvs may wear less, but constant turning has not been an issue on the 3rd gen oe cv joints that I know of.
Manual hubs have been better for my cv boots so far (lift w/diff drop) but when I didn't have manual hubs I did the boot stretch mod and that kept cv boot wear to a minimum, too.

Personally I wouldn't bother for either of those reasons.

I have a 99 with the 3rz and I averaged .4 mpg better driving from Portland, OR to Redding, CA. Same route - same weather - one week apart.
