Manual swap gone wrong

Ok I made a huge error in judgement when I picked up a r150f out of a 2ND GEN 4RUNNER. 1. The input shafts are not the same length. 2. The transfer case from my 3rd gen will not mate up. 3. The bell housing bolts are not the same.

I should have done a little more research but just so everyone knows, the r150f from a second gen WILL NOT work for a 3rd gen.

I'm going to go drink myself to sleep now. That is all.

I'm not even close to the level of doing something like this but man, I feel for ya. Pouring one out for ya as well (into my gullet)

This swap can be done, but unfortunately you'll need a lot more than just the engine. Is there a particular reason you want to go with the unreliable r150f engine that's known for it's head gasket issues.

I helped do a swap like this, but not on just an engine. The ones that I've helped swap included the transmission, and t-case among a lot of other parts.

The r150f is not an engine. It's a manual transmission found in 2nd and 3rd gen 4runners. You might be thinking of the 3.0 engine that was known for head gasket issues.

Looks like I was typing something different than what I was thinking. Either way I don't think it's possible to mate the transmission to the 3rd Gen engine, or at least easily.

Even swapping a manual 3rd Gen transmission you would run into the same issues.

Right; that was the point of his post.
If you need anyone to talk to, we're all here for ya man. A manual transmission from a 3rd gen definitely bolts right up- on both ends; the same problems Sam is having would not occur at all.
 
It really only sucks because now it's just sitting there until I can get my hands on another transmission. Oh, well. This gives me more time to finish up the clutch pedal mounting I started along with figuring out the wiring. Thanks for the kind words everyone.
 
If one went through the extra effort of an SAS, could the tranny/TC actually work?
That would keep the front axle/TC output on same side. (I have no idea about wiring/etc.)
It would be essentially like a 2nd Gen that gets a 3.4 swap - yes?

I don't understand what you mean by SAS. But I don't have the transfer case for the R150F, I only have mine thats from the auto.
 
Not that it matters since you don't have the parts and pieces and it would be easier and cheaper to get a 3rd gen trans, but for educational purposes...SAS is "Solid Axle Swap".
 
I think you should edit your original post just for clarification for future searchees.
Tons of guy have used 3.0 R150F behind the 3.4- including myself- so it actually IS possible.
There are differences though.
1) The input shafts are different lengths, but the bellhousings are the correct corresponding lengths; you can't use a 3.4 bellhousing on a 3.0 R150F without swapping the input shaft.
2) Tailhousings are also different- you can't use a driver drop case on a pass drop trans.
3) Slave cyl is on the opposite side.

Bottom line- the 3.0 R150F is not the trans you want to use to do a manual swap in a 3rd gen. You're right about that.
That said- the 3.0 R150F is exactly the trans you want to use in a 3rd gen if you want to run a pass drop front axle. It will bolt up to the 3.4 and work no problem. Like I said- I've done it.
