Manual transmission

Does anybody know if it's possible to put a manual trans. on a '93 4Runner? My A/T is going out and i've been thinking about it. What parts do i need to buy? Is it cost efficient? Looking for better take off, better MPG and improved off road capabilities. It has the 3.0L and 4WD. Do any 4Runnes come with M/T stock??

Sure they did - from '84 up thru 2002. You'd get slightly better gas mileage and performance as the early '90-95 ATs were not very efficient. If someone were to give you the trans package and your time was free it might be cost effective. There are tie-ins to the electrical harness that would have to be overcome - might even require the ECU to be swapped out (which would entail the entire wiring harness). Would be easier on the pre-90 vehicles for sure. If you are buying the parts and paying for labor - it would be cheaper to buy a MT vehicle - or find one with a blown engine and move yours to it.

The FJ Cruiser can be had with a 6 speed MT! Whooohoo!
