Manual v Auto rear driveshaft

97 v6 4wd 5-speed. DC joint is shot. Looking to pull one off a parts vehicle. Parts #'s are different for Manual & auto trans. I can't imagine they would be that different-maybe minor length difference. Anyone know or have any experience swapping auto driveshaft into 5 speed?

5-speed rear shafts are 1" longer.
One option would be an auto DS with a 1" spacer.

You didn't specify engine. A V6 auto shaft fits a 4 cyl 5spd. Same part number, I did it a few years back.

Both j-shift transfer cases are different. For manual it's on the right side. For auto it's on the driver side.

Just went out and measured. The front of the driveshaft from where it meets the transfer case to where it is splined is 35 5/8" on the auto and 37" on the 5speed. I thought all jshift transfer cases were the same just that the shift lever is spun around 180

Only the lever is different. The transfer case is the same.

I'm pretty sure the tacoma uses a longer shaft with a carrier bearing in the middle. Doesn't look the same at all. I was under one yesterday, wish I had paid more attention.

Just went and measured all three. From the front flange where it bolts to the transfer case to the splined separation
4runner 3.4 jshift manual 42 1/4"
4runner 3.4 jshift auto 41"
Tacoma 2.7 manual single cab 391/4"

The single cabs have a shorter wheelbase than the extra cab and the double cab. Almost all the single cabs are the 2.7 Driveshaft is unsupported on the single cab
