Manually downshifting.....indicator light out?

Was in a little traffic (30-35mph) and decided to manually shift into 4 from d. When I did so, it showed on the cluster that I was in 4th gear, but then it went out.

Subsequently, downshifting into 3rd and 2nd showed which gear I was in but when I went back into 4th it did not show (light) I was in 4th? I can't recall if this has ever happened in the past. Normal? Fuse? Light bulb? No check engine lights or anything else either......thanks.

hmmm seems like a elec. or dash bulb issue. good luck.

on the subject of those gear selectors, you can throw it into any of those (obv not to L with speed) while moving? you can upshift or downshift reasonably just letting off the throttle and using the selector? i understand if you're in 4, 3, 2, or L, the engine wont shift beyond what is selected, for use with long descents for braking health. is it useful for wheeling or climbing??

If your talking about the indicator light by the shifter itself there is a light bulb that plugs into the white plastic cover that attaches to shifter assembly. It plugs in at the base of the shifter assembly. I don’t know that the bulb can be replaced, but the entire bulb, wire, and plug assembly looks to be one unit.

The bulb CAN be replaced. I swapped mine for an LED bulb. One thing to note though. Thar single bulb illuminates all of the indicators in that cluster next to the shifter.

Good to know...when I replaced my shifter assembly I noticed my bulb was intermittently turning on and off. I tried, briefly, to remove so I could try to reseat, but ultimately I concluded with no electrical testing that I have a short somewhere. The shifter location still appears on the dash so I haven't decided to take apart the center console again to replace the non working bulb.

Ahem! S p a r k y does dash light work

This is happening on the instrument/gauge cluster. Are there individual bulbs here? L, 2, 3 and D lights up but not 4.....

Thanks for the plug! I almost posted that here! But sounds like it might be more than a led.

Yours doing good?
Yup. Tapatalk notifications suck. Except the KTM forum. I get notifications from that for threads I don't follow... Whatever.

The lights are fantastic! I sat in another 4th gen and felt ill looking at the stock lighting. It seriously still feels like a brand new truck.

yes, it's essentially the same as flooring it on the freeway and making the trans drop from D into 3 on its own. no need necessarily to let off the throttle.

for long ascents like driving up a mountain or a long stretch of freeway, yes. it's better to hold a lower gear with slightly higher RPM than to be constantly shifting up & down. when i have cruise control on while on the freeway and my truck shifts down to 4 i move the shifter over to 4 to keep it there 'til the hill levels out.

descents, yes. better for the same reasons and you won't be wearing out your brakes. you have more control with engine braking while descending.

wheeling, yes, use lower gears. keep your gears as low as you can and let the engine/trans do the braking for you. people always say "you don't even need 4LO or a locker" but i'd rather depend on my gearing, trans & DAC to keep me going slow & steady than my brakes. brakes make you slip & slide down rocks and you don't want that.
