Mas air flow sensor replacement

Hey everyone has any one replaced a MAF?
I am getting my volant CAI taken off and my stock box back on.......upon taking off the MAF the tec found what looked like padding on the bottom of the sensor....to create a seal I assume.......does anyone know if this is needed for the stock box?
As I dident put it on the volant I'm not sure if it was there to start......any help would be great.....as the truck is in the shop now......!!

where was the -padding_? your not talking about the gasket that makes the MAF - seal- on the tube , are you? was the wire itself fouled? if it was, a (wet) filter like the volant or k&n can do that. i changed out my stock MAF to a highflow one , then replaced the wet air filter with the new volant dry one.

it was a "wet filter"
and it looked like it was an aftermarket seal....as the Toyota MAF sensor did not sit flush on the CAI it must of been put on to create the seal....therefore when we went to put it on the factory box it would not fit....had to remove it and now its flush and no more problems or vacuum leaks

This is the exact reason why I never went with an after market intake or even drop-in filter replacement. My Toyota dealer even advised me against the TRD drop-in replacement that they sell, stating that they always see people in there needing to replace their MAF sensor who are running aftermarket intakes (K&N, Volant, TRD, etc.).

Sorry, I know that is not much help, but I think you're doing the right thing by putting the factory box back on. Beside, the factory intake is a true "cold air" intake already. :

the WET filters are the oil treated ones that alot of aftermarket cai come with. its the oil that gets sucked onto the MAF from the filter that fouls it. that does not happen with an aftermarket DRY filter. if someone uses an oiled filter, all you need is to remove the MAF (thats easy) and spray it with cleaner once & awhile. takes a whole 15 min. & saves you the cost of a new one.
