Mass Air Flow Sensor

Quick tech question. I inadvertently got some water in my MAFS. Did realize it at the time and my truck kept dying after warm up. Brought it to the stealership, where they gave the diagnosis. They said it shorted the wiring harness and there's a "hot wire" in the MAFS. They want $702 to replace both. I call BS. I saw both pieces in person, neither of which look cooked. He also said there's oil from my K & N on it. I actually just cleaned the MAFS a few months ago, so I have a 1/2 can of cleaner. Question; Can these cook or do you think I can just clean it and be done with it? Sorry for the length, but needed a little background. TYIA.

You can try cleaning. Can't hurt. Make sure you use MAF cleaner and not just anything.

I call BS on the harness....I have seen MAFs go out from water damage though.

Thanks, honestly it was just over spray from a quick rinse off of desert dust. It was stalling, but I think I could save $550 ($150 diagnosis charge) and just clean it. I even already the MAF cleaner, so I don't even have spend the $5!

The manual shows a 15A fuse in the under-hood block called "A/F Heater" which you might want to check. If the MAF shorted out, this may have blown.

And get a can of aerosol Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner to spray down the sensor element. No touching, just spray it from both sides and let it air dry.
