Mass air sensor cleaning

Has anyone cleaned their mass air sensor. On a Thunderbird I previously owned I cleaned it and it ran much better. My 4runner only has 40k miles but I am going to clean it and see what happens. It may be a waste of time. I am going to remove it and clean it with a CRC mass air sensor spray can. I know I have to be carefull not to touch the sensor wires. I will let everyone know if it helps after I get it done.

Yes, cleaning the MAF is quite common. 40,000 is probably a little early for it, although it's been in service on your 03 for 5 or 6 years.

As you said, be very careful, because it's very delicate.

Well, I got around to cleaning the sensor today. It did not look very dirty at all inspecting it with a magnifying glass. I gave it 15 shots of the cleaner as recommended on the can. I can honestly say it is a little more responsive now at lower speeds. It just seemed like is was getting lazy before. It is not a day and night difference but definatelly worth $5 and 15 minutes of time.
