On the way up to NH yesterday for a hunting trip I noticed my peddle got real spongy, the truck would still stop but it wasn't good.
I knew it needed a master cylinder from the symptoms but I didn't have any tools with me or a place to do the replacement. When I got to NH I found a dealership that was good enough to take the truck last night. Today they found they didn't have a replacement available and since I needed the truck done today said they could get an aftermarket one for me.
They did that, bled and adjusted the brakes.
I was charges for 3 hours labor (included the diagnostic) @$78/hr. = $234, and $238 for the parts (cylinder & fluid), total $472.
I realize that I can't do anything about the price of the parts, they can charge whatever they like (although on the net the cylinder sells for anywhere from $78 to $180) but the 3 hours seems high to me.
Does anyone know what the service manual lists as standard hours for a master cylinder replacement w/ bleed and adjustment?
