Master Warning Light

General Info: 2015 TRD PRO, 98K miles, all fluids and maintenance completed on time. No signs of any caps loose such as brake fluid reservoir cap, gas cap, etc. No leaks anywhere. No moonroof.

So I have a friend currently driving my 4Runner because her car was totaled. She’s been driving it for a few weeks now. She reported (while driving up a gravel driveway that has an incline) a symbol popped up that has an exclamation mark inside a triangle and a picture of a vehicle on the information screen on the instrument cluster. She said the message on the screen said Master Warning Light. No buzzing noises.
She said it happened twice. Vehicle currently drives fine. Did a scan with my BlueDriver and no codes popped up.

Has anyone experienced this with their rig?

I was not present at the time so I am limited with info that I can give.

Probably Toyota's poor attempt at hill start assist functioning. It automatically comes on when it feels it needs to.

I think your 4r is warning you not to continue to lend your Pro to your lady friend...lol

Now if there are some "benefits" that you are receiving, I can see doing this as a very temporary thing. But as you have seen with supply chain issues, 4runners are not replaceable......girlfriends, that is a different story.

She picks up my daughter and cares for her. So the benefit is my daughter’s safety and getting her to school on time. My 4Runner is replaceable.

Mine does that if I start to drive off with a door ajar or the tailgate open.

Ok found out one of the rear passenger doors needs a little more love to close. So it was most likely the cause.

My thoughts as well. That exact symbol pops up whenever I am going up an incline and start to go backwards

+1 Toyota was smoking something with that "feature". My Subaru stick shift had an actual hill start brake hold assist.

New to me ‘16 Limited which has keyless entry (so no turn key ignition).

When I get in the car, press brake and hit the start button as the vehicle turns on and the dash lights up this triangle comes on but with no messages and by the time the car is fully ON it’s not lit. Is this normal and part of the start up procedure/ check of lamps?

No lights on dash, no error, truck drives fine.

New to the 4Runner so still learning its functions and features.

Pages 77-80 of your 2016 Owner's manual. Section 2. Instrument Cluster.

Indicators with *1 will illuminate during ignition stage to indicate system check is being performed and then will turn off once started. The 'Master Warning Light' (triangle with exclamation point) is marked *1.

I guess it depends on which year Manual you look at. My '21 the info for Master Warning Light was 484-488. A 2016 Manual has the information on pages 422-428. Section 7-2.

Well I feel like a idiot. I looked right at that page and saw the triangle light and it referenced page 422 so I jumped straight to that.. never noticed the little *1 next to the icon [emoji2357]
