Matte Black on Black.

Just looking for some opinions. How do you feel about matte black vinyl on a black car? I just picked up a trail hood, I was thinking about doing it in matte black vinyl primarily to cut the glare when using the roof rack lights. Should I do it or should I just paint it black. Hrm.

I think it would look great. I am thinking about doing vinyl too because it's reversible, and when it gets dinged up you can just apply it again for a lot cheaper than repainting. My two cents.

If I were to do it, I would do the center section of the hood only.

I'm not sure I can get on board with that idea. I like the way it looks on the grey but I'd have to see it on black.

Also, what do you anticipate for a horsepower increase with the Trail hood?

lol I just got a great deal on a trail hood, couldn't pass it up. I like the look of the scoop, I know its not functional, but its better looking than the stock SR5 hood. If I don't like it, I can always just swap back.

I know this is a great truck and all, but that is one thought that has NEVER crossed my mind. I'd buy a Tundra first and put money in it instead.

Where didyou get the hood from?

If it were me I'd have it painted black then you can put the vinyl on after if you want. Later on if you get tired of the vinyl just remove it and you already have a black hood ready to go.

I've done CF before on my rsx but I actually had a cf hood. Not really a fan of it on black.

Raptors are sick, but I'm a photographer, theirs no way im keeping my gear in the bed of a truck.

What is the base color of your TE hood? Silver?

Its not painted anything, its primered.

I think Matte vinyl the whole hood will look great, especially if the Shrockworks is painted flat or semi-floss black!

I would like to get my silver trail done with a vinyl hood. Anyone have any input as to how much it would cost to have done??? Harpers is the only one I've seen like this so any more pics would be awesome cause you know what they say...:worthless

My black FJ with matte black hood vinyl...I thought it looked pretty good.

I'll probably do it to my TE when the time is right.

Seriously though, I've been thinking about this as well and since I also have a black 4Runner, I thought a matte dark gray vinyl might look pretty good.

I was thinking plastidip lol, I know VW guys do it all the time on their hoods and roofs.

Once you go Matte,you won't ever go back. It is so much easier on your eyes driving without the glare off the hood in daytime and especially night time driving. It will stick to a primered hood no problem and for around $100(doing it yourself) if you don't like it,take it off and then paint.Trust me ,you'll like it! If it's primered flat black,I'd probably just try going with that.

I'm probably going to redo mine in the 3M matte silver or gray this fall as the black does show dust and dirt . Sometimes I just have to wash or wipe down just the hood now as my silver doesn't show dirt much at all comparatively.
