Matterhorn 2016 SR5P build

We have owned this amazing vehicle for one year next month (December 2015 purchase). Currently 11,xxx miles. All without any issue (obv). I'm a cardiac nurse and my passion lies heavily in adventures on bicycles (road and mtn bikes) but camping and 4wheeling is a close second & now I truly have my dream truck capable of all that I want out of life. 2016 SR5 Premium with 3rd row (4wd).

Goals
1. to have a very comfortable and yet practical SR5P with a 3rd row so that we can grow into it as a family and stuff up to 3 or 4 kiddos in there and go on road trips without having to deal with massive tires and lugged down engines trying to make it up mountain passes.
2. A comfortable DD for my wife (I currently drive a 2014 civic SI sedan as my DD)
3. An off road worthy machine with more than enough clearance and grip to tackle all kinds of trails & capable of mounting a RTT for my family and I to camp in!
4. To keep the build clean and simple but very functional & capable

SUSPENSION
- Bilstein 5100 struts front and rear (fronts set to 0 lift) all lift provided by OME coils

- FN Wheels Countersteer type X (bronze), 17x8 -10 & locking black lugs
BFG KO2 265/70 Load C

EXTERIOR
- Optimum Opti-Coat for long term protection since replaced with Menzerna PowerLock sealant topped with Collinite 845 insulator wax
- RCI Aluminum front skid
- GOBI stealth rack with no-rise option, sunroof cutout and movable crossbars
- GOBI ladder
- AVS hood visor (so awesome and it doesn't touch the hood, it bolts to the underside
- NFAB side steps (I want sliders but my wife needs steps as this is her DD)

INTERIOR/lighting
- TRD PRO shift knob
- Weathertech floor mats front and rear
- Theretrofitsource Morimoto 55w 4300k Xenon low beams
- NOKYA yellow halogen dogs and NOKYA yellow DRL/high beams (looks really cool and it is actually really functional, especially in poor weather conditions)

The day the rear OME coils and trim packer were installed (note how much higher the rear is - these coils truly needed some time and miles to settle and not be so high.

I plasti-dipped my lower front valence the other day and it looks really mean but I Hate how crappy PD tends to look so I will probably peer it off soon.

Please ask any questions or leave comments below. My near future plans include some off-road recovery items so that I can strap them all over my GOBI rack whenever I go out & the alloy RCI skid plate.


It's nice to have such a large rack so I can hang things on it. I'm the ultimate bike-nerd (bicycles) and I was a total car-guy before I got into trucks and toyotas.

Great build. I see that you're running 265s on the car. I'm surprised that it doesn't look all that skinny. Any particular reason you stayed stock sizing?

I love how the 5100's ride. No complaints at ALL. No noticeable nosedive anymore and they seem to be dampened perfectly for everything from smooth paved roads to rough gravel trails.

Thank you, I'm pretty burned out on black wheels because everyone runs them. I've always been a huge fan of bronze and IMO it works on all paint colors. The GOBI is sweet, worth the wait & it makes a lot of sense for us because if we use our 3rd row, we don't have much storage space at all & the rack allows for that.

Well, again this is my wife's DD and I didn't want to sacrifice a lot of practality with larger sized tires. I'll definitely go with 275's next time but I definitely don't hate the way these 265's look and drive. Load C is quite a lot lighter than a load E 275 as well. They definitely don't look too skinny, especially when they're dirty

Those N Fabs make me cringe. If you are doing any sort of real wheeling you may want to switch to something that bolts onto the frame. Hate to see your truck damaged from the mall bars pushing up to the sheetmetal :shocked:

I like that you have a 2" lift and 265 KO2s.

I have no lift and those same tires but a lift is next on my list. Need to level out the front after a winch and bumper.

But 11,000 miles a year? I've got 7500 in three months

Yeah I do understand what you're saying. I hate them but they are really practical for my wife to get in and out and it's her DD... so I'm just extra careful when i wheel. Any suggestions on sliders that can double as steps or possibly a better option for steps that bolt to the frame?

Have you had any issues with alignment at ~2.5” in the front with this setup? I don’t think I saw anything about new UCA’s in your write-up.

Do you remember if you were able to get the caster to spec, or higher?
