Matt's StarrRunner New 0-60 Video

Ok, so I've done a lot of tuning and I have the thorley cat-back installed but not the headers. I still havent gotten around to installing them yet. I tried so many different ways to launch and I came to the conclusion that I just need that supercharger. I have no torque at low rpm's but the second I hit my power-band the thing just launches. I'm hoping that my new thorley headers will help out when I install them too.

Theres 4 videos and the first 3 are all of the same run, and a pic at the botom for all you non believers out there. The first one is a compensation edit for my tire size and Im guessing on the speedo so its probably not that accurate but its close. The second is an edit right at 60mph, the third is the original and the fourth is where I almost did a launch, saw a car coming, thought to myself it might be a cop... and it was, sorry the camera was pointed at the dash but my commentary is pretty funny
Here's a link to a tire compensation site:
http://www.powerdog.com/tiresize.cgi (Im running 265/75R16)

I synced up a stop watch (again not exact) and the comp vid is 7.5sec and the normal edit is 8sec flat. I had my GPS with me (I tried to take a picture but it wouldnt focus) and it said that I my altitude was 6138ft. So at sea level I could probably run 6's

Videos looking at a speedo can still be argued;the only way you'll shut some people up is get a timeslip/vid at the dragstrip since there you can have direct comparison to other cars known 1/4 mile times.

I'm looking forward to April and I'll go up there and get some vids but your vids do look promising.

yea there is a massive straight shot down a pretty steep hill i was gonna go to and do a 0 - 60 video just to be funny, since i woulda prolly went 0-60 in 5sec, so me the speedo-cam vids are a little shady, but i agree a time slip is gonna be the only conclusive way

Nice, I'm looking foward to seeing if the headers will make a big difference on the NA engine.
Everyone has always advised me against them until a SC but when I look at the stock headers, I have to laugh at how restrictive they are.

Please give me some proof so I can justify the header install headache.
:)

The only way you're going to get any real performance gains with intakes, headers etc. without supercharging is if you get the maf calibrator from URD.

any time you reduce backpressure, you are losing torque, and eventually gain power in the higher rpms. Thats why no one recommends the headers until you supercharge. Since you have almost instantaneous boost off the line, you get your torque back. The MAF calibrator wont bring your torque back.

Thats the thing that sucks about being in CO. I wanna go now <a href="http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/xXPestilenceXx/?action=view&current=Sad03.gif" target="_blank"><img src="http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b355/xXPestilenceXx/Sad03.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> I cant wait till April!!!

That is what I have always thought also. When I looked at a Thorley Dyno from a 2000 4runner NA it got 10hp right from 1500 rpm on up though. (this was on a group buy a while ago-provided by DT)
Can their headers really be tuned to provide low end torque or is it just a dream until a SC can really utilize the flow?

My question is:
Why take a 4x4 and try to make a "race car" out of it ???

IMO that just DEFEATS the purpose of a 4X4
I really dont want my lifted 4X4 to go 120MPH, if I wanted to drive that fast, I would have bought a fast car not a 4x4 SUV

Videos are looking good man. I couldn't really make out what you were saying in that last video.

Maybe you should make a thread that covers only what you have done to improve your horsepower.

I said "holy sh*t, good call" then I kinda mumbled "go me" like right at the end. And I'll do a mods thread soon. I want to get everything working right and installed first.

Ok i just wrote like a 2 page essay on why, but it got deleted when i went to submit it. Lame. So quick and easy version, saying "if you want a fast car, just buy a fast car" is the same to me as saying "if you want to be a famous musician, just do rap music" F*CK THAT! Im not making a race car out of it, Im just making it very fast.

i remember your last post you didnt even know what the mechanic did to your ride and now youre saying you have a stroker kit:confused: He would have had to offset grind the stock crank or go with new forged crank plus rods, pistons, etc (at the very least) to turn your 3.4 to a 3.8 and im sure youd know about that.
You say you dont care what we think then why are you posting all these videos?? if you spent the thousands of $ on engine work, anybody in their right mind would have a dyno graph or even better a vid to post along with it instead of these useless vids with post it notes on the dash, lol

Well you gotta think that the reason the headers work so well with th s/c is because you're increasing intake pressure, basicly, so reducing resitance on the exhaust will let that gained pressure leave the engine more efficiently. I've actually been playing around with back pressure a lot lately. In my fastest 0-60 runs I have actually put the intake silencer back on but still with a 5" hole in my airbox. If I remove the intake silencer my 0-60 suffers but my 60-100 increases. Now as is right now, with the cat-back system I gain a lot of mid-range power, which is why my power band is so insane, but at the cost of no low-end. While being N/A im gonna play with this as much as I can so I can show everyone what the best intake/exhaust set up is for N/A applications, and then I'll do the same for S/C applications this summer

You know, straight up, you're an absolute a*shole and I really don't like you. I post this for everyone who is interested, cause I enjoy actually giving back to the community instead of criticizing people all the time. And I don't see the point in spending money at the dyno while being N/A when Im basically gonna have to start over with tuning when I get the S/C. The difference between you and me is that you probably do this for a living, and I just do this for fun. I wouldn't even call it a hobbie. You can usually tell if someones a mechanic when all they like to do is bash people who aren't mechanics but like doing sh*t to their cars. I pitty you man, cause obviously your life is so sh*tty you gotta come on to an online forum and talk sh*t to someone to make your self feel better. You know, you're absolutely right, I don't really know sh*t about cars. You probably know way more than me. There, does that make you feel better? Are you gonna sleep better tonight? Go f*ck yourself man, and get a f*ckin life. If I cared about what everyone thought, I would have never started this project. Oh and fyi I posted this as a "hey check this out", not to prove a point.

im an ******* for calling you out?? im not a mechanic but im pretty good at pointing out dumbasses. I could give two shits if you "like" me or not but youve got all these posts with your stupid BS stories and your "3.4?" in your signature so i cant give my opinion :bigok: I just think youre full of shit, thats all:p

I don't see how you're calling me out. Ok so I don't really know what kind of engine work was done. I've already established this. I told my mechanic that I wanted to use the 2" URD pulley on my S/C so i wanted to do whatever I needed to, to make sure it worked properly. And when he was done he said my engine was now a 3.8l.
Well Im not trying to impress you or gain your acceptance so why don't you just stop posting on my threads.

Sigh. Every post is starting to just turn into banter.

Since you just want to make it "fast" I suggest you add the TRD supercharger and then implement the STS turbo system for Tacomas since money seems to not be an issue? Go big or go home I say, since you already have a 3.8 L

What's this STS Turbo System you speek of! I am doing the TRD supercharger. Thats the whole point of this build. But i cant get it till June.

Ric, what my mechanic says better be true cause I just spent over $6,000 on my runner and he did most of the work. He rebuilt my entire engine. The whole motor was out of my car and in his garage for 3 days. We put in new pistons, rings, cams, crank, everything, but we built it on the sole perpose of being able to handle that TRD supercharger with a 2"pulley. That's all i know. My mechanic has been one of my best friends for over a decade so I trust everything he tells me.

Ya I think I'm gonna go find a different website. Almost everyone on here is b*tch and I'm sick of all the negativity. Ya you all can go f*ck yourselves. Those of you who I'm still cool with, you know who you are, pm me your email and we'll keep in touch.
