Who has them and/or what are your thoughts on them? Also if you could add pictures of them set up on your rig.

Good thread idea. I have lusted after a set of these for awhile as I generally don't have the benefit of travelling in a group and like the idea of having all the tools necessary for quick and safe self-extraction. I can tell you these would have saved me a 3 mile walk and humble begging to a farmer on a recent pheasant hunt in Kansas (i.e., no trees).

i read somewhere there are other brands. any input from those that have off-brand versions? thanks for all the input thus far.

I'm picking up a set of Treds this weekend. I don't consider them an off brand. They are well built and I've used them before.
 
I've have the Tred 1100's for about a year now but have never used them. They seem very stout and I have confidence if that used appropriately they will work. Looking back I can think of two situations where I wished had used them as I probably would have returned home with clean shorts.
 
I recently bought them, was going out into sand in Mojave desert and didn't want to take chances with getting stuck. they fit on spare tire with the rack they sell, and they don't get in the way of the Trasharoo. Not cheap, but good preventative measure, especially if you are out alone. If you go to Expedition Overland YouTube site you can see video of use in deep snow.

I also have the tred 1100s, they are made in Australia just like max trax and work great. I've never had any issue with them and at half the price of max trax, it was a better buy for me personally. They also have a lifetime warranty. I have a brand new extra set that have never been used that I am going to post in the classified if anyone is interested. I thought it would be good to have two sets but I realized 1 set gets the job done.
 
I like the concept, but they seem very overpriced for what they are. I have been looking at the other brands.

Hey! That's the group buy I am trying to get organized! :reddance:

The thing is that after researching them a bit, the MaxTrax are the best to get. The TRED's are not "bad" but the Maxtrax seem to be just that extra bit better. There's a couple links in my group buy thread showing the MaxTrax in action (if it can recover a 6axle military vehicle, its good enough for a 4Runner), I haven't heard of too many MaxTraxs cracking; where as the TREDs seem to be more prone to it. Both TRED & MaxTrax do not hold up to wheel spin well.
 
Used my MaxTrax more than a few time including on the tractor and they work very well. I've posted a video somewhere using them in a mud pit at a Overland Expo during one of their classes.

As mentioned, when stacked they do work well for bridging too.
