Maxed out the digital thermometer....

Last night I was in the city, It was a balmy -30'c. Then while I was driving home out to the country, it got a little colder, and then the thermometer just couldnt take it anymore...

When I got home I checked theweathernetwork.com and the official temp without the windchill was -44'c

This afternoon it warmed up, so I headed out again...

The Temp display will read -30 and then any colder and it just cuts out.

What kind of winterizing do you do to your 4R?

I hope I never live in a place where -30C is considered warmed up.

I was being sarcastic I live in Edmonton Alberta, and we are stuck in a cold arctic air mass currently. Last week it was above freezing, and they are predicting in a few days it will go from -30 to +3. its pretty normal for us to have a huge temp change like this, it happens all the time.

As for winterizing, all I have is an engine block heater. in this cold, if its not running, its plugged it. I started the truck at -40 (same celsius as ferenheit) this morning and it fired right up!
The truck needs to sit at idle for 15 to 20 mins to full warm up inside, and also to get up to temp for the engine and engine bay.

this extreme cold is crazy though.. on the highway the power steering gets so cold that theres almost no power steer assist.. and the shocks are so cold, it rides like a semi truck, really stiff and bouncy.

after sitting all night, the diff fluids, and wheel bearings are so cold, that when you go to leave the parking spot, you almost have to put it to the floor to get the truck to move. this goes away after about a minute of driving.. but really trips some people out.. they get out of their car and look to see if theres something wrong, but everything is just COLD.

I was wondering about the heater setting in my new to me 2003 4R.

I have been using the auto setting. When I press auto, the a/c also lights up then I press the a/c to turn off that light but the auto stays lit. The venting selector will then default to feet only as it stays in auto to reach temp say 28deg. However if I try to the switch vent selector to front window/feet the auto light goes off. Is this similiar to you experience?
I would think that everytime I press auto and the a/c lights up this isn't great for the compressor to power up in this cold temp. Or with auto and a/c lit up does that mean straight cold air will be drawn in as needed to maintain temp and a/c compressor is off?
