I had a pretty bad accident two days ago. It's beyond a miracle that I did not hurt anyone nor myself. I did take a tree out of its roots and move it 5-10 feet though.
The story is not very exciting. I was leaving for an appointment at 5:30am. It was a VERY foggy morning. The night piror and earlier that morning we had tornado warnings.
I left home being less than 2 miles away, I didn't see a stop sign in time and went 40-50mph over a ditch and straight into a tree. The tree a good 40 feet in length, mature growth, but fortunately dead, was taken out of its roots and moved forward 5-10 feet. By a blessing, the tree fell to the drivers side, taking my side mirror with it. If it had landed on the truck, well it could be a whole other story.
My steering wheel airbag and console below the steering wheel column where deployed. Which is really why I'm sharing this story with you. At one stage of building this truck I was torn about selling my ARB bull bar (@FacotryRide) to replace with either the OEM bumper or look to purchase another aftermarket companies version. That little description though that says "Air Bag Compliant" on the ARB bull bar, arguably saved me from serious bodily harm if not my life. I wasn't wearing a seatbelt (stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID idiot and the odds of what "could" have happened to what "did" happen, taunt me still.
I want to conclude with this. Firstly, please don't as me for parts (yet). Secondly, if you have a custom or aftermarket modification that you have made to your truck that is NOT complient with the factory safety system, such as the airbag. I would really consider, reconsidering that modification. Remember is doesn't have to you, it can be idiots like me that make a poor decision.
Lastly, I really don't give a damn about what happened to my truck now, truthfully. That morning a "greater power" took control. The facts still don't add up. It's been a wake up call to reconsider my purpose in life and direction and where I'm going with it. Im just so grateful to have not taken some innocent motorist with me in this event nor had a passenger with me at the time.
Toyota Ego Disclaimer: I did get the truck out of the ditch (FIRST ATTEMPT) in 4low and drive it 2 miles home to leave it there for a insurance inspection. Not a single warning light too, other than the airbag light. You do weird things when you knock you head
