The act of installing an aftermarket bumper doesn't disable the airbags. What ARB means is that their bumpers are designed to crumple/fail in key areas much like the factory bumper and bumper supports. Most people (my self included) don't want that much structural weakness in something we're buying to stand up to abuse.

What it does is help reduce the inertia in an impact much like the factory set up does by crumpling. Where as other bumpers will not crumple as much which translates to more inertia to the occupants.

I'm curious how thick their bumper is compared to others, because that amount of buckling seems borderline excessive for 40-50mph for that level of protection.

This. The disadvantage of having a non-crumple-zone bumper is that the airbags might go off in a minor collision where they wouldn't have otherwise. There's no danger of having them not go off.

The ARB bumper is at least a 3/16" steel shell with some overlapping portions double that. It's in line with other bumpers.

Glad that you're ok, but you have no evidence that a bumper that has not been "crash rated/approved/airbag kosher" would have caused a negative outcome.

Material stuff can be replaced.. your noggin can't. and those around you who love you are more impacted by that than your truck did on the tree!

I did had a bad accident in the past and everything changed after that. I see my life way different now ...

I just have a question: Did the time got slower for you during the accident? I am asking this as during my accident, I found that the time got very slow for me as I was able to place my hand on my girl's forehead (she was sitting on my right side), I was able to review moments from my childhood, to think @ my parents, friends, etc ... and after that we hit the bridge ... for me it felt like 4-5 minutes and in reality it was like less of a second.

Can you provide pics of the side view and interior? I am wondering what the cabin looks like after the impact.

I have been reading and I am a little confused over the bumper issue; did it assist more or less in protecting the occupant(s)? Or is there just not enough info to say? Or is the difference negligible/depends on wreck?
