I would stay away from it. Mercedes only recently made significant strides to improve quality...that generation of C-class sucks. If i was in the market for a Mercedes, then i would ONLY look at the current models.
(And yes, i owned a Mercedes in the past...but my MB was made in a different factory in a different country...thank goodness!!)

Anyway, her mind set is that if we already own it out right, she wants at least the same year or newer with less miles if we are financing something. Which I agree with. I just don't know alot about them or if they still have that 100K mile service warranty or if they're easy to work on.

Mercedes Indy shops are generally more expensive than the lesser brands. I did take my G to an Indy shop...it was not that much cheaper than dealer. Your wife can get it...but make sure that you can pay for repairs...it ain't cheap.

This is my 2005 C230 Kompressor. I've owned in for 4 years. It has about 43k on it right now. Truth be told, get the extended warranty. I've got until 100k miles, regardless of time, with my extended warranty.
FYI, my 2005 was built in Germany. I also work for Mercedes-Benz.
2005 C230's are 1.8 liter supercharged. They've got less power than the 2006/7, which has a 2.5 liter N/A V6 making 12 more horsepower. I prefer the 1.8, as it is lighter and feels better to drive. There's also potential for boost upgrades, etc. 1.8 also gets better MPG, I can get 32+ MPG on the freeway doing 75-85 MPH.
Nevertheless, it is a lower model Mercedes-Benz. You're going to be driving a nicer car than a 3 series BMW, IMO, but it's no S-class. It comes with MB-Tex instead of leather, which is basically a more durable leather substitute. Still feels and looks like Leather to a normal person. Only you'll know the difference.
If I had to go with another small sports sedan, I would have gotten a manual IS300. The C230 is not half bad, and it's a thousand times safer than a Chevy Malibu, haha. A buddy of mine at work owned one when he lived in New York. He wrecked it (identical one to mine) going 90MPH on the freeway in rain. He lost it after someone changed into his lane, went sideways, and smashed into the median head on. He was fine.
I admit, since my tires are rated for it (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus), I have pushed the car to it's limits. It has a limiter at 130mph. It feels incredibly stable at those speeds. The wider tires and low stance really make it a pleasure to drive compared to most small sedans of 05.
Horrifically small back seat. Not good for anything, unless you've got kids from trying to use the back seat for what I've failed at using it for, haha. I once squeezed a 55" plasma back there, thats about it.
Tires go fast on the front from the camber if you drive it quickly. If this becomes an issue for you, i will happily send you a free camber kit that reduces the camber angle in turns. It makes the tires last way longer. The only cost is an alignment, as it is an adjusting bolt. Free for C230 owners! Inside door handles can break if you really go nuts with them. Front is low, make sure she is capable of judging curbs. Fog lights are fragile. Maintenance in general is pricey. People usually complain about that aspect because it's not cheap like their Camry, but this car doesn't handle like a boring Camry.

well for those of you who care..........we bought one. Its an 06 C230. Only has 49K on it with service records and a 1 owner bought new here in town. Its covered for another 25K miles and full synthetic oil changes for as long as we own it. Hopefully it will be a problem free car.
