First, many thanks to all the contributors on this forum for all the great info, you were very helpful when I finally decided to pull the trigger. I'm a former Taco and Tundra owner, this is my first 4Runner.
I picked up my '14 Trail on Wednesday, and finally got around to syncing my iPhone and messing with the audio / nav system tonight after the football game.
First thing, the newest Entune update allows the vehicle's Pandora and other apps to connect to i-devices via bluetooth instead of requiring it to use a cable. That was a nice surprise, since the salesman at the dealer told me the Entune apps would only work with my iPhone 5 if I used the USB cable. WTF, really? Nope.
Second, I finally figured out how to upload custom startup images, here's the one I think I'll stick with for now.
For those of you trying this, here's what finally worked for me. I have no idea is this will work on anything else other than the new audio system with nav and the Entune AppSuite:
1. I used an empty flash drive formatted in FAT32. Make sure to enable "view hidden files folders" on your computer, and delete everything except for a single folder named "StartupImage".
2. In that folder, I stored 2 images which I named TRD1 and TRD2. (You can name them whatever you want, just make sure to use ANSI characters) Make sure you use capital letters in the file extensions, either .JPG or .JPEG are acceptable. You may need to change your view options to show file extensions in order to do this.
3. Plug it in, then turn on the vehicle. Go to Settings, General, Startup Image. At first it didn't connect, so I just kept tapping "transfer", and eventually it connected and allowed me to upload the images. It took a couple minutes, be patient. Approve the overwrite, and you'll be good to go.
4. The native resolution of the screen is 800x480. I sized each image accordingly, and they scaled perfectly. I uploaded both to my server in case anyone else wants to use them, they're posted below.
