metal on metal in reverse?????

I hear a loud metal on metal grinding type noise in reverse, I have an 08 4x4. also a ticking noise, Ive never driven another 4runner, so not sure how quiet they should be. any help would be help. thank you in advance.

Do you have the V6 or V8? The ticking sound is normal on the V6. This thread has ways to reduce it.

Where does the grinding noise come from - front end, rear end, etc?

Is this a new occurrence or you had it all along?

How many miles on your tuck?

it's an 08 V6 4x4, it has 37K on it, I hear it in the front when reversing, it's almost an articulating sound (sorry, not sure how else to describe) almost like gears are syncing metal on metal.
