Metal Shift Knob Question

Guys I’m in the market for shift knob for my 2016 ORP. I was considering the trd pro black knob but then I started running across the metal knobs from guys like Ellis Precision and AJT Design. My question for you guys that have installed a metal shift knob is about heat. How hot do they get in the sun? I live in SC and it gets pretty hot down here. Not trying to be a little sissy but I don’t want to have issues with potentially burning my hand just because I want a cool shift knob. Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Personally I am waiting for the set in blue from Teton Workshop to be back in stock: Shifter and Transfer Case Knob Combo - 5th Gen 4runner 2010-current
– Teton Workshop

Review from Trail4Runner quote about heat:

"However, in the past few weeks that I have had this on, Arizona has gone from temps in the low 100s to now in the 40s at night. Interior temperature got to around 115 degrees and while it was warm it wasn’t uncomfortable in the slightest; the textured powder coating may have a factor."

I have a shifter from Ellis Precision. 10/10 love it. No issues with heat, but in the cold... holy crap does it get cold. Although I live in a place where it is below zero in the winter. Summer day's in the 90's.. doesn't heat the shifter up at all.

I have a set of Ellis Precision knobs.
I love them.
Do they get hot or cold, answer is yes.
I live in south Louisiana so I don’t have to tell you about heat down here.

But, I deal with it….. haven’t burned my hand yet!!!!!!!

+1 on Ellis Precision! One of my favorite mods!

Title says it all. I got a Red anodized set from Ellis. I wasn't sure I was going to like them or not, but I LOVE them.

I have the Teton Workshop shift knob and it didn't get anywhere near uncomfortably hot during the summer. Looks and feels great too.

I have one from Ellis Precision (black) and didn't have any problems with it in cold or hot weather. No frost bite or third degree burns! LOL.

I love my Ellis precision knobs. They get hot and very cold. The transfer case one gets especially cold in the winter. When my special lady friend tries to grab my hand, I put her hand on the freezing cold t-case knob and hold it there. I swear, that’s the meanest thing that I do.

Also, apparently I’m a total madman when I put on my seatbelt. I have about 100 nicks in my shifter knob from me hitting it with the seatbelt. I have no idea how or why, but I sure have made a mess of mine.

Still— they’re awesome.

+1 for Teton workshop. Got my sexy grey black ones right hereeee

IMO no other shift knob beats these at the moment. Love the G10 feel because I’m used to my g10 grips on my firearms

When i was younger I had to walk to school, 150 miles each way in a blizzard with no shoes, while getting chased by polar bears, and had to sustain myself by eating pine cones, and sleeping in the carcasses of dead animals, but the temperature fluctuations of my shift knob will be the death of me......

I have the ellis precision set, and I like it. I also have the TRD shift knob and thats pretty cool too. Would have gotten the teton one, but the colors that match my drapes is always sold out.

You can always drape your covid masks over it, to keep it from getting too hot....the heat might sterilize the masks too.

Surprised given your location. My garage isn't heated and if it's parked for the night in winter that shifter is ice cold. Not tear your skin off cold, but damn sometimes I have to wear gloves lol.

Thanks , you just cost me a few hundred bucks.

Can’t wait for them to show up [emoji106][emoji106]

Ahaha, you're welcome. :reddance:

Looks like Teton just restocked all color options -- just placed my order for the blue set. So stoked!
