Metallic Clicking Under Braking

So when braking, i hear a metallic clicking sound coming from the back of the truck. It sounds rotational (if that makes any sense). I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the rear brakes because that makes the most sense to me. Not sure if its relevant, but i recently got an alignment and it got worse: it began happening while coasting between lights as well. This stopped within a day and now it is back to happening only under braking, although not every single time i press on the pedal.

I've searched and come up with nothing; i know it is hard to even begin diagnosing a sound described online but I'm looking for some guidance. I'm most likely going to replace the rear brakes anyway since shes got 205k on her and I dont think shes had a rear brake job for a while, but is there anything i should be on the look out while im down there???

Brake shield could have gotten bent? I'd check there first. In the past with other cars I've taken them places and the shield was bent just enough to make contact and click during braking.

Hey James,

I've never replaced rear shoes yet. Maybe you could come over again and Sean and I could hook you up and make a video of it.

If it is your rear shoes causing that noise, you may be metal on metal meaning your brake shoes are all the way worn down and you're gouging your drums. So, if that ends up being the case, new drums will be in order but you can probably buy some though a place like Napa or O'Reilly in a pinch if we find we can't get them turned because too much damage has been done.

Yeah, just give me a shout when you're back and we'll figure it out.

Ah okay, yeah probably not that, it definitely sounds like its from the back end.

As far as the brakes i very much doubt they are that bad since i changed them when i first bought the truck. Honestly im just doing them for piece of mind since im basically overhauling all the easily replaceable parts on the car. Im actually thinking about doing the drums and shoes

Im going on 2 major road trips next month so im just trying to make everything safe.

How long ago did you change the rear shoes? Most of the braking happens with the front disks so if you changed them not too long ago, they're probably ok. If the pads aren't that old, the noise probably isn't due to the brake shoes.

maybe like....3 or 4 years ago. I just cant think or find of anything else that could be making the noise
 
Might check out your drive shaft u-joints. I have a similar noise, a clunk/clicking noise when coming to a stop and my u-joints are shot.

Update: So i finally got around to checking and my u-joints seems to be fine. No play in them at all.

Ive been crawling around underneath and cant seem to finds anything. Next step is to take off the drums and see if anything is caught inside.
 
New symptom

OK so now im circling back toward the u-joints/drive shaft.

While on the freeway i experienced a violent shaking, reminiscent of when my u-joints failed a few years ago. So im going to re-visit the driveshaft and check everything out
