Methane Injector

How many of you guys have seen this? It looks awesome to me. Ive never even heard of this until I saw it on yotatech today, which was the first time Ive ever been on their forum. It would be cool to get a thread going on this here. The guy knows his stuff

Methanol/water (not methane) injection is common on HP supercharged engines. Injecting methanol (alcohol) and water will cool the mixture (as the methanol evaporates) and slow the burn (raising effective octane) so it allows more ignition timing. Since superchargers and turbochargers raise the effective compression ratio it requires more octane to avoid knock (which will destroy the engine) or reducing the timing (which reduces power). Bottom line: unless you have a supercharger (or turbo) you're not likely to see much gain in power. You could tune the PCM for a little more timing (if you have tuning software) but you won't see much (if any) difference on a N/A (naturally aspirated) engine, and probably little if any change in mileage. Much better ways to spend your money (unless you have a supercharger).

Yup I've seen this before. At first I thought it was a big fake, but a buddy of mine's dad drives a work truck that has a setup similar to this.

Methanol/Distilled H2O injection

Just got a Devils Own DVC-30 kit with a progressive controller. Will post impressions after I get off my butt and install.

I have a friend who runs a very similar setup with his SC'd 3.4 in addition to the URD 7th Injector Kit...

He likes it. For some reason on the dyno I still made about 25hp more than him.

I believe that 8sm has a devils own on his SC runner on top of the URD stuff. I believe he uses it in the summer when It's way above 100 degrees here in AZ. PM him and ask him to comment.

I ran a meth injection kit on my Talon. I was makign around 300whp running it. I later switched too e85 and made around 350whp, there was really no reason to run the injection after that.

IMO there is no reason to run a kit like this unless under boosted applications like a supercharger or turbo. Its like running higher octane gas when you dont need it, its just a waste of money. You wont gain any noticeable HP on a dyno at all without raising compression, timing or adding boost.

Was a progressive kit or just on/off? Was it tuned for the Meth injection? Maybe his motor would have been more down on power to yours w/o it?
