Methods to test braking safety features?

apparently, according to the dealer, my ABS sensor has some sort of issue, causing my VSC/TRAC type lights to always be on (no ABS light though). normal braking is fine. however, i'm wondering if my other braking features are still alive or not.

i've rarely in the past been in situation that required even ABS to kick in, but those safety features are there, and would like to confirm their availability.

Try to "lock up" your wheels when braking at speed, of course do this on a road where you can be assured it can be done safely, if you can't get them to lock up then the ABS system is working....ABS is the acronym for "Anti-lock Braking System", brakes do their job only as long as the wheel is still gripping the road, once a tire starts sliding that wheel is no longer slowing you down as it should, it's still slowing you down but not as rapidly as it would while it's still turning, the ABS slightly releases the braking action on any tire that stops turning until it starts turning again.

This can be done more easily on icy or wet roads, but can be very dangerous if you do start sliding, so be careful!!

I use dirt road (about all we have) and "lock em up". The vehicle should shudder and not skid.

Have you tried resetting the codes? I had my anti skid flashing I checked the fuel cap reset codes the flashing stopped.

OMG, the fuel cap solution! it really is the solution to all of life's problems. whenever someone complains to me about a problem, i suggest they check their fuel cap!

i may have misstated, it is the ABS module, not sensor.

OMG, the fuel cap solution! it really is the solution to all of life's problems. whenever someone complains to me about a problem, i suggest they check their fuel cap!

I'm with you. I see so many people on here and other sites that think the fuel cap is the root of all evil. "My car stalled and won't restart", "Check the fuel cap". The fuel cap is one of dozens of reasons the check engine light can come on. And it's only for a problem in the EVAP system.
